Voluntary Training Placement in Unity, VR & Educational Game Design

Company Description PlayVR is Austria’s leading VR entertainment center, offering over 200 immersive games and experiences for a wide range of guests. The company focuses on virtual reality as a social and interactive medium, hosting corporate team-building events, school trips, private celebrations, and casual hangouts. Located in the Auhof Center, PlayVR combines cutting-edge VR technology with engaging content to create memorable experiences. The team is expanding its offerings and platforms, including new digital and remote initiatives, and shares updates through its online channels and community.

Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Game Development & Virtual Reality (Unity) professional at PlayVR. In this position, you will design and implement gameplay features, mechanics, and interactions for VR experiences using Unity and C#. You will collaborate with designers, artists, and other developers to translate concepts into engaging, performant, and user-friendly VR content. Daily tasks include prototyping and iterating on gameplay systems, optimizing performance for VR platforms, debugging and resolving technical issues, and integrating assets, UI, and audio. You will also contribute to improving development workflows, documenting your work, and helping ensure that each experience aligns with PlayVR’s quality standards and player expectations.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), with experience in C# and Unity.
  • Hands-on experience in Game Programming and Gameplay Programming, including implementation of game mechanics, interactions, and systems.
  • Background in Game Design, with the ability to translate design concepts into functional and enjoyable VR experiences.
  • Experience building and optimizing applications for VR platforms (e.g., Meta Quest, SteamVR, or similar).
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to debug and profile for performance.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a distributed, remote team environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Portfolio or examples of shipped games, prototypes, or VR projects demonstrating relevant skills.
