At Scelion, we’re transforming how companies navigate public procurement.
Instead of manually searching for tenders, checking requirements, and handling paperwork, businesses connect their data once and we automate the rest.
Our mission is simple: make public procurement fast, efficient, and actually usable.
We’re building with the latest frontier AI models at the core of the product. AI is not a side feature for us - it is central to how Scelion understands tender data, automates workflows, and helps companies move faster.
We intentionally invest heavily in AI model usage, experimentation, and token spend. Internally, we have a rule to spend at least €2,000 per month on AI model usage, so the team can build, test, and ship with the best available technology instead of being limited by outdated or low-cost substitutes.
Scelion is a VC-backed early-stage startup with additional funding from experienced angel investors.
Role DescriptionWe’re looking for a smart, autonomous Software Developer to join us full-time in our office in the heart of Munich, at Odeonsplatz.
This role is not about knowing one specific programming language or framework. We’re looking for someone with strong computer science fundamentals, good judgment, and the ability to figure things out independently.
You’ll work on real product and infrastructure problems across web applications, cloud infrastructure, data workflows, and AI-powered product features. You’ll help build systems that can search, understand, structure, and automate parts of the public procurement process.
You’ll often work with a lot of ownership and limited hand-holding. That means you should be comfortable understanding a problem, researching possible solutions, making technical decisions, and shipping reliable work.
You’ll work closely with the founders on:
- Developing and improving web application features
- Building backend logic, APIs, and data workflows
- Working with databases, structured data, and business logic
- Supporting cloud infrastructure and deployment processes
- Improving reliability, performance, and security
- Working with AWS and modern cloud services
- Supporting DevOps tasks such as CI/CD, environments, monitoring, and automation
- Debugging issues across the application and infrastructure
- Integrating external APIs and services
- Building AI-powered search, matching, classification, and automation features
- Turning messy real-world tender data into structured, useful product experiences
- Contributing to product, architecture, and technical decisions
This role is ideal for someone who learns fast, thinks clearly, takes ownership, and enjoys solving difficult problems without waiting to be told every next step.
What We’re Looking ForMust have- Strong computer science fundamentals
- High intellectual curiosity and ability to learn quickly
- Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of problems
- Solid programming ability in at least one modern programming language
- Understanding of web application development
- Basic knowledge of databases, APIs, and software architecture
- Basic understanding of cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS
- Interest in DevOps, deployments, CI/CD, monitoring, and automation
- Interest in frontier AI, LLMs, intelligent automation, or AI-powered software products
- Ability to debug problems and learn unfamiliar technologies quickly
- Structured problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Good judgment when making technical decisions
- Clear communication and ability to explain technical trade-offs
- Interest in startups, SaaS, automation, or public procurement
- Willingness to work on-site from our office in the heart of Munich, at Odeonsplatz
- Fluency in English
- Experience building or maintaining production web applications
- Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, ECS, CloudWatch, or similar
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, GitHub Actions, or similar tools
- Experience with Linux, networking basics, or server administration
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Understanding of security, authentication, permissions, and application reliability
- Experience integrating external APIs
- Experience with data processing, documents, XML, JSON, or automation workflows
- Experience with AI APIs, LLMs, embeddings, semantic search, agents, or retrieval systems
- Interest in building AI features that solve real business problems, not just demos
- German language skills are a plus, but not required
- Competitive full-time salary
- Performance bonus
- Equity package
- Access to the latest frontier AI models for real product development, experimentation, and prototyping
- A culture that actively encourages deep AI usage - we invest at least €2,000 per month in AI model usage
- Direct collaboration with the founders
- Real ownership over product and engineering work from day one
- Opportunity to work across software development, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and frontier AI
- Steep learning curve across product, engineering, data, AI, and startup building
- A role where your work directly shapes the product and company
- A fun, ambitious, and exciting place to work with young, driven, entrepreneurial people
- A central Munich office at Odeonsplatz
This role is ideal if you:
- Are smart, curious, and able to figure things out independently
- Have strong technical fundamentals and want to become a stronger engineer
- Are excited by AI, automation, and building intelligent software systems
- Want to work with frontier AI models on a real business problem, not just demos
- Enjoy solving practical software and infrastructure problems
- Are comfortable learning new technologies instead of depending on one specific stack
- Want to work across application development, cloud, DevOps, and AI-powered product features
- Like working close to product, users, and founders
- Want to build real features and systems, not just complete isolated tickets
- Are proactive, reliable, and comfortable taking ownership
Public procurement is a huge market, but for most companies it is still slow, manual, and difficult to access.
Scelion is applying frontier AI to a real, complex business problem: helping companies make sense of public procurement data, identify relevant opportunities, and automate painful manual workflows.
- As one of our early engineering hires, you won’t just write code - you’ll help shape how the product works, how the platform runs, and how AI changes the way companies interact with public procurement.
