Software Engineer

We are expanding Duferco’s Corporate Innovation Team: a fast-moving engineering team operating in a startup-style environment, backed by the stability and scale of a global diversified group.

You will work on a wide variety of projects across domains such as energy, trading, logistics, steel, insurance, sports, and other sectors — not as an external consultant, but as part of the group itself, with the ownership and continuity of an internal product and engineering team.

You will build internal platforms, AI-enabled tools, automation systems, and backend infrastructure that remove operational bottlenecks, improve decision-making, and create leverage across the business.

This is a great role for an engineer who already has some production experience and wants to grow quickly by working close to real-world business problems, modern tooling, and experienced teammates.

What You’ll Do

Design and build systems that make the organization faster and smarter:

• Backend services and APIs, mainly with FastAPI, Postgres, and AWS-based services
• Integrations across internal and third-party systems, often where the hard part is understanding the domain, not the code
• AI-enabled automation systems, agents, and operational tools
• Engineering tooling that improves how we build and ship
• Data and decision-support pipelines, including data platforms and internal analytics tooling

You will work with more experienced engineers to understand business problems, design pragmatic solutions, and build, test, ship, and improve features over time.

You will not just execute tickets. You will be encouraged to ask questions, understand the domain, suggest improvements, and take on increasing ownership.

You’re Probably a Fit If

• You have some experience building backend systems in Python, ideally in a production environment
• You are comfortable working with APIs, databases, FastAPI services, or similar
• You can design a data model from a messy business problem — choosing the right entities, relationships, and trade-offs — not just implement one someone else specified
• You make pragmatic trade-offs between speed, quality, and maintainability, and can explain why
• You enjoy integration work and take the time to understand a business process before modeling it in code
• You use AI coding tools daily — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar — and have opinions about where they help and where they don’t
• You’re familiar with Postgres in production, including schema design, query performance, and migrations.

Experience with data warehouses such as Redshift, LLM applications, agent frameworks, MCP servers, or complex operational domains is a strong plus.

You do not need experience with every technology we use. Strong engineering ability, adaptability, and willingness to learn matter much more.
