About Compana
Setting up a compliance program can be challenging and expensive, especially for small teams. Compana is building a compliance platform that helps small Australian businesses and firms build a personalised AML/CTF program and manage their obligations throughout the full client lifecycle.
We’re a team of ambitious problem-solvers building a platform that makes compliance simple, practical, and accessible. We work backwards from our users' needs and build around how they actually work, helping small teams manage compliance with confidence.
We are an early-stage company at an exciting point of growth, with a working product and a clear path to market.
The Role
We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join a small technical team and take shared responsibility for the Compana platform. Reporting directly to the Product & Technology Manager, you will play a key role across development, DevOps, environment management, and releases.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates clearly with non-technical stakeholders, and contributes to sound technical decisions as part of a collaborative team.
Your key responsibilities include:
DevOps & Environment Management
- Own and manage all environments — development, staging, and production
- Manage the full release process including deployments, rollbacks, and release notes
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support a consistent and reliable release cadence
- Manage cloud infrastructure (hosting, DNS, SSL, secrets, database backups)
- Set up and maintain monitoring, alerting, and on-call incident response
Development
- Build and ship new features aligned with the product roadmap
- Maintain and extend integrations with third-party APIs and data providers
- Contribute across the full stack — frontend, backend, and infrastructure
Maintenance & Quality
- Manage bug triage, fixes, and regression testing
- Keep dependencies current and apply security patches proactively
- Maintain clear technical documentation across the codebase and infrastructure
Stakeholder Communication
- Translate technical product requirements into effort estimates and surface technical constraints early
- Able to create technical design specifications and documentation across the product suite
- Be the technical voice in the room with clear, pragmatic, and solution-focused approach.
- Manage vendor and API relationships on the technical side
About you
Must have
- 5+ years full-stack experience (Node.js or equivalent backend; React or equivalent frontend)
- Hands-on DevOps experience with CI/CD, environment management, and production deployments
- Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including networking, storage, and access management
- Experience building or maintaining a SaaS product in production
- Comfortable integrating and maintaining third-party REST APIs
- Comfortable taking ownership of your work and delivering outcomes as part of a small, collaborative team
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
- Prior experience working with or for Australian businesses, including familiarity with Australian business practices, vendors, and timezone expectations
Nice to have
- Background in fintech, regtech, or compliance-adjacent software
- Familiarity with Australian regulatory frameworks (AUSTRAC, AML/CTF)
- Security-conscious development practices (OWASP, encryption, data privacy)
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code
Our hiring process
- Application: Submit an updated CV (required). You may also include a cover letter (optional), which is an opportunity to provide additional context on your experience, working style, and interest in the role.
- Initial screening: Your application will be reviewed by the hiring manager for this role. They will assess your skills and experience to determine whether you meet the key selection criteria. The job advertisement will give you a clear understanding of the requirements for the role.
- Screening call: If your application is shortlisted, you will be invited to a screening call to briefly discuss your background and the role in more detail. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
- Interview process: The interview process consists of two stages. The first interview will be with the Product & Technology Manager, and it will focus on product and technical fit. The second interview will be with the CEO, and it will focus on your motivation, ways of working, and overall fit with the team.
Please note: as we're an early-stage company, and considering the volume of applications, we may not be able to reply to everyone individually. However, we genuinely appreciate the time you've taken to apply.
We welcome requests for adjustments at any stage of the hiring process and aim to provide an accessible and inclusive experience for all applicants.
