About the program

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.


Responsibilities

The Cyber Engineer’s primarily responsibilities include:

  • Assist with definition of system security requirements for decomposition across subsystems for Mission and Support Systems
  • Identify design attributes and describe how they influence the design
  • Plan and oversee cyber security test and evaluation activities including test plans and test events
  • Perform system reviews, provide recommendations that mitigate system security risk
  • Prepare core Security Documentation in support of System Authorisation activities
  • Contribute to security design activities led by the Lead Cyber Architect
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) advice and guidance to a range of stakeholders with respect to security architecture, securing engineering, and cyber security supply chain
  • Assist and support the development of security requirements during the functional analysis phase of the program
  • Review security architectures and technical solution designs
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide general cyber subject matter expertise to the engineering team
  • Support ongoing planning and estimating, status monitoring, measurement and reporting regimes for Cyber Security activities
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, direction and training as required to build overall ICT knowledge and capability
  • Address system-of-system architectural needs by analysing all layers of embedded security within given WAN/LAN architecture
  • Apply Cyber Security standards, directives, guidance and policies to an architectural framework
  • Stay informed of the latest cyber threats, technologies and legislation to ensure best practice is applied
  • Remediate identified security risks and promote a philosophy of preventative mitigation activities including awareness and training

About you:

To be successful in this role you will also have:

  • Significant experience working with Defence security frameworks including the Defence Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation Framework (DCSAAF), and Australian Special Access Program Implementation Guide (ASIG)
  • Significant experience in performing and leading cyber risk assessments

Desirable

  • Certified security professional with either ISC2, GIAC or ISACA certifications and/or demonstrated experience in information system security design or operations
  • Experience with the systems engineering lifecycle and methodologies
  • Experience with Model-Based Engineering (MBE) concepts and tools
  • Previous exposure to the Australian Defence industry and ASDEFCON process
  • Experience with the DOORS requirements management tool, including tool setup and schema development
  • Strong understanding of Configuration Management and Change Management

Special Requirements:

Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance and employment may be contingent on the provision of further personal information including citizenship to ensure compliance with international export control legislation and regulations. An NV2 is required for this role prior to commencement.
