Samsung C&T has long been active in the energy business having delivered projects across the globe including Australian geography. These cover projects ranging from renewable energy generation, Transmission Lines and Gas power generation.
To strengthen our team, and in pursuit of new business opportunities, we are seeking an experienced Project Director for Energy projects in Perth.
About the Role
We are seeking an influential and commercially astute Deputy Project Director to oversee the successful execution of a complex; multi-faceted project aligned with the organization’s strategic goals. It involves a portfolio of integrated Gas and utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Western Australia.
Based in our Perth office, this executive position is about high-level strategic governance, project ownership, managing client engagement (including key stakeholders), developing an understanding of Samsung C&T’s internal governance, process and compliance requirements, allocating resources, mitigating risks, and delivering outcomes that drive business value.
- Act as the primary interface for Samsung C&T’s executive management, steering committees, and partner organisations.
- Prepare and oversee high-stakes delivery strategy, procurement strategies and serve as the primary liaison between executive leadership and project teams.
- Manage the commercial framework working with client, partners and other delivery organisations safeguarding the company's financial objectives and risk boundaries.
- Lead project-level steering committees and reporting structures, overseeing resource allocation and interdependencies across sub-projects.
- Act as the main escalation point for project-related issues. Champion critical macro-level approvals and strategic relationships with high-level external entities.
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop project managers, functional managers and discipline leads building high-performing teams and foster a culture of accountability and excellence.
- Define roles and responsibilities and ensure appropriate team structures are in place for smooth execution of project deliverables.
- Manage (and own) project budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure financial controls are in place. Prepare (and present) forecast costs and prepare financial reports for leadership review.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks that may affect project delivery ensuring project comply with legal, regulatory, and organisational standards. Lead audits, reviews, OHSE and quality assurance process.
- Foster an executive culture focused on safety leadership, commercial discipline, and strict alignment with corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) targets.
- Evaluate and improve project delivery methodologies, implementing best practices and continuous improvement processes, leverage emerging tools, systems, and technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Achieve project objectives and build a lasting legacy within the communities where project is delivered.
About You
- Minimum 20+ years of heavy infrastructure, resource, or energy sector experience, with at least 5 years operating as a Project Director, Program Director, or General Manager over major corporate assets or builds.
- Ability to lead with clarity, purpose, and authority inspiring confidence and direction in cross-functional teams.
- Having big-picture mindset whilst managing granular project details with assessed decision-making based on long-term business values.
- Having deep understanding of Project Management methodologies with proficiency in scheduling, resource planning, scope control, and change management.
- Experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets with an ability to forecast, track project contingency and profitability, and optimise resource spend.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with an ability to lead multidisciplinary teams including sub-contractors.
- Skilled at identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate. Proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Strong knowledge of construction management principles, techniques, and industry best practices including managing industrial relations.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities to deliver best outcomes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex construction projects, preferably in gas, battery energy storage systems or renewable energy.
- A strong strategic grasp of Western Australia’s energy market dynamics and project delivery approach (Preferred but not mandatory).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Commerce, Law, or Construction Management from a recognized university.
