RailNetEurope (RNE) is an association of European Infrastructure Managers (IMs) and Allocation Bodies (Abs) headquartered in Vienna. With around 80 international employees, we actively shape the future of European rail transport. Through innovative processes and IT solutions, we drive the digitalization and efficiency of European capacity management in view of the upcoming requirements from EU legislation.
We are looking for a Data Scientist to support the development of data-driven and AI-enabled solutions within the organization. In this role, you will contribute to improving data structures, interoperability, and digital transformation of railway business processes.
YOUR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Contribute to ontology development and maintenance for railway business process digitalization.
• Model and structure data to improve interoperability across systems and stakeholders.
• Participate in discussions and decisions on data formats and exchange standards.
• Assist in the introduction of practical AI solutions within the organization.
• Collaborate with RNE members and represent RNE in working groups on railway digitalization.
• Develop training materials and deliver training sessions to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Support the organization’s data science and AI initiatives.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• Academic degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (completed or in progress).
• Strong communication and English skills (B2+) in an international environment.
• Hands-on experience with ontologies, including working knowledge of RDF, OWL, and SPARQL.
• Strong understanding of data modelling and linked-data principles.
• Proficiency in Python; experience with R is an advantage.
• Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences in an international setting.
• Comfortable with Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and ideally Power BI.
• Familiarity with SQL, XML, and ETL/data-management processes, are considered as an advantage.
