Responsibilities

  • The Head of Risk will be responsible for running a comprehensive and robust risk detection and management program. Focus areas cover: i) Enterprise Risk Management ii) Market Abuse Detection and Monitoring iii)Outsourcing Arrangement & Third-Party Risk Management i)Business Continuity Plan.
  • Risk Frameworks:Develop and implement comprehensive enterprise risk management (ERM) systems for crypto-specific risks (market volatility, smart contract flaws, custody, etc.).
  • Market & Financial Risk (together with the Head of Finance): Manage liquidity, capital adequacy, and volatility risks, ensuring fair, clear, and non-misleading client communications (together with the Head of Compliance and Head of Legal, where necessary).
  • Proactive Monitoring:Implement real-time transaction surveillance for suspicious patterns, taking immediate action.
  • Operational Resilience:Oversee strong cybersecurity, secure custody solutions, and systematic third-party risk management, with regular security audit(together with the Head of ICT & Operations and CISO, as well as the Head of Legal and/or Outsourcing Manager)
  • Internal Controls: Monitor employee trading and private investments in crypto, integrating them into firm policies.
  • Acting as the ICT Risk Manager - Develop and oversee the ICT Risk Management Framework in strict accordance with DORA and MiCA requirements, ensuring the platform's ability to withstand, respond to, and recover from ICT-related disruptions.
  • Acting as the Business Continuity Manager - Designs, authors, and continuously updates the overarching Business Continuity Plan and policy framework, defining clear recovery timelines for all critical business functions.


Requirements

  • Experience: 8-10+ years of experience in risk management within the financial services or ICT sector, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership capacity (Head of Risk, Risk Director, or Senior Risk Manager) within a Crypto Exchange, Web3/DeFi platform, or FinTech institution.
  • Language Proficiency: Professional fluency in German (essential for dealing with the Austrian regulator and reading Austrian law, C1 or C2 level) and English (required for global team coordination) is a must.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth, authoritative knowledge of European financial regulations, specifically MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) and DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act).
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of ICT risk management frameworks, data security standards, and operational resilience required to act as the platform's formal ICT Risk Manager. Deep understanding of digital asset vulnerabilities, including smart contract flaws, network congestion, protocol forks, and custody solutions (e.g. MPC, HSM, hot/cold wallet architectures). Demonstrated experience designing and authoring Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) protocols, including defining recovery timelines (RTOs/RPOs) and orchestrating organizational drills.
  • Adaptability: A "builder" mindset with the ability to navigate an evolving regulatory environment and the pressure of upcoming license milestones.
  • Professional risk certifications: highly desirable, e.g., FRM - Financial Risk Manager, PRM - Professional Risk Manager, or CRISC - Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control.
  • Location: Must be based in or willing to relocate to Vienna, Austria.
