IT/OT Network / Architecture Engineer

My client, a multinational manufacturing organisation is on the lookout for a IT / OT Network / Architecture Engineer on a permanent basis in Cork.

The Job:

• Design, configure and maintain IT/OT network infrastructure, including industrial Ethernet, LAN/WAN, wireless networks, VLANs, routing, switching and firewall technologies.
• Develop secure network architectures to support industrial control systems and the integration of operational and enterprise environments.
• Install, configure and commission network hardware, servers, virtual platforms and supporting infrastructure.
• Perform system testing, validation and commissioning activities to verify network performance and operational readiness.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, networking and connectivity issues across industrial systems.
• Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls including network segmentation, access management, system hardening, patching and backup strategies.
• Support disaster recovery, business continuity and infrastructure resilience initiatives.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, network configurations, IP addressing, infrastructure standards and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, IT and third-party suppliers to deliver infrastructure solutions.
• Provide technical guidance throughout project delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure and maintainable.
• Monitor network health and recommend improvements to performance, reliability and security.
• Support operational handover by ensuring systems are fully documented, tested and ready for long-term support.

Have You:

• Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, Electronic Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in IT/OT infrastructure, network engineering or industrial systems integration.
• Experience working within manufacturing, FMCG, dairy, pharmaceutical, food & beverage or other industrial production environments.
• Strong understanding of IT and OT networking, including LAN, WAN, VLANs, Wi-Fi and Industrial Ethernet.
• Experience with enterprise and industrial networking technologies such as Cisco, Fortinet, HP, Stratix or equivalent.
• Familiarity with PLC, HMI, SCADA and MES systems and their connectivity requirements.
• Understanding of IT/OT convergence and integration between enterprise and industrial control systems.
• Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity principles, including network segmentation, secure remote access, access control, system hardening and patch management.
• Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V or Nutanix, including server and backup technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across network infrastructure, industrial systems and OT communications.
• Experience supporting infrastructure projects through implementation, testing, commissioning and operational handover.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality, cybersecurity and continuous improvement.
