Doctoral Student
Integrative Urban Analytics for Sustainable, Efficient, and Liveable Cities
Are you passionate about data, cities, and technology that makes a real-world impact?
We invite applications for a PhD position in the field of Computer and Information Science, contributing to a cutting-edge research project on integrative urban analytics and data-driven urban decision-making.
About the Project
Modern cities generate vast amounts of heterogeneous data—from governmental open records to mobility traces, environmental sensors, and citizen‑generated information. Yet, despite their potential, these datasets often remain fragmented, underutilised, or incompatible across contexts.
This PhD project tackles precisely this challenge.
You will contribute to the development of a scalable, modular, and transferable analytical framework that enables:
- Systematic integration of diverse urban datasets
- Advanced computational analytics for assessing urban efficiency and sustainability
- High‑quality, evidence-based insights into mobility, energy, pollution, accessibility, and other cross-cutting indicators
- Improved decision-support tools for urban planners and policymakers
- Reproducible and transferable methods using open-source data, open repositories, and citizen-science input
The work spans the entire data pipeline—from acquisition and pre-processing to integration, analysis, reporting, and visualisation—and will be tested across multiple Slovenian and European pilot cities.
Your contributions will help shape future-ready tools for more sustainable, efficient, and liveable cities.
Your Responsibilities
As a PhD researcher, you will:
- Develop data integration pipelines for diverse urban datasets
- Design computational modules for analytical workflows
- Apply machine learning, statistical modelling, or geospatial analysis to urban systems
- Build visual analytics and decision-support tools
- Validate the framework across multiple real-world pilot scenarios
- Publish your findings in leading journals and present at international conferences
We Are Looking For
A motivated candidate with:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Science, Data Science, Geoinformatics, or a related field
- Strong programming skills (Python, R, or similar)
- Experience with data analytics, geospatial data, ML/AI, or data engineering
- Ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams
- Curiosity about urban systems, sustainability, or smart cities (experience is a plus, not a requirement)
How to Apply
Please send your:
- CV
- Motivation letter
- Transcript of records
- (Optional) sample of research work or code repository
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
