Our client is a large and complex organisation delivering a range of data-driven initiatives across its operations. With a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making, they are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join the team on an initial 3-month contract. Based in Brisbane CBD, this opportunity will see you working with both technical and business stakeholders to solve complex challenges, uncover actionable insights and support key business outcomes.

Your new role

As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for leveraging data to solve business problems and drive informed decision-making. You will work across a variety of datasets and projects, collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver practical, data-driven solutions.

• Analysing and interpreting complex datasets to identify trends and opportunities
• Developing analytical solutions using Python and SQL
• Translating business requirements into actionable insights and recommendations
• Communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Producing clear, accurate technical documentation
• Supporting collaborative development practices using Git and version control tools
• Contributing to ongoing optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this position, you will need:

• Strong programming capability in Python and SQL
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience using Git and version control methodologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reporting
• Experience engaging with a range of stakeholders and translating business problems into data solutions

Highly desirable:

• Experience within mining, resources, energy or other asset-intensive industries
• Consulting experience delivering analytical or technology-focused projects
• Engineering, optimisation, operations research or technical problem-solving backgrounds
