About The Role
As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, implementing, and maintaining end-to-end solutions for our integrated platform. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, primarily composed of embedded software engineers, to deliver high-quality products. This position combines hands-on development (80%) with leadership responsibilities (20%), including mentoring, roadmap planning, and coordinating R&D efforts across various product phases.

About The Role
As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, implementing, and maintaining end-to-end solutions for our integrated platform. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, primarily composed of embedded software engineers, to deliver high-quality products. This position combines hands-on development (80%) with leadership responsibilities (20%), including mentoring, roadmap planning, and coordinating R&D efforts across various product phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and evolve software architecture spanning on-board middleware, AI integration layers, frontend, backend, and cloud services.
- Lead the product roadmap by prioritizing features, setting milestones, and aligning technical plans with business objectives.
- Write technical documentation, including product requirements, solution architecture, and design review documents.
- Implement core modules in C/C++, Python, and C# for backend services, ensuring high performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Design and architect interfaces between AI/ML models and application infrastructure, including APIs, messaging, and data pipelines.
- Develop SDK/API for integration of core technology into third-party products and workflows.
- Implement and maintain bus-protocol drivers (I2C, SPI, UART) with multi-bus and multi-instance support for redundancy.
- Define and adhere to clear software-to-hardware interface contracts, ensuring consistent behavior across platforms.
- Establish DevOps pipelines, including CI/CD, automated testing, and container orchestration across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Promote design patterns, coding standards, and architecture reviews to ensure scalable, modular solutions.
- Mentor and manage multidisciplinary teams to foster collaboration, code quality, and iterative delivery.
- Coordinate R&D activities by organizing sprints, reviewing experiments, and integrating research outputs into production code.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of embedded software development experience, with emphasis on cross-platform or portable code.
- Proficiency in C and C++ for embedded contexts and C# or Java for backend services.
- Deep experience with I2C, SPI, UART protocols, including multi-bus and multi-device patterns.
- Proven ability to develop for both Linux (Yocto, Ubuntu) and RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, RTEMS).
- Proven track record of managing or mentoring teams in agile, iterative environments.
- Strong version control workflow expertise (Git, GitFlow) and CI/CD integration.
- Python scripting skills for coding, build, and test automation.
- Background in integrating AI/ML models into production workflows.
- Experience with digital-twin frameworks or simulation tools.
- Hands-on embedded firmware development or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Familiarity with DevOps tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools like JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Background in satellite or aerospace on-board computers (OBCs) and flight software frameworks.
- Exposure to container-based CI for embedded builds (Docker).
- Knowledge of additional field buses such as CAN/CAN-FD, MIL-STD, etc.
- Experience with secure boot or firmware-update mechanisms.
- Prior work on middleware or plugin frameworks.
