About wheel.me
At wheel.me we build robotics infrastructure from the ground up, combining custom hardware, embedded systems, real-time robotics software, and cloud-based management tools. Our core innovation, Genius, is the world’s first autonomous wheel, transforming ordinary equipment into intelligent mobile robots that operate safely and efficiently in real-world environments. Designed and manufactured in Norway, our systems are deployed to customers worldwide.
The role
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our robotics team and build the software that brings our autonomous robots to life. You will design and implement features that give our mobile robots safe, intelligent behavior in industrial environments, working close to both the robot and the teams around it: embedded, mechanical, fullstack, and DevOps.
This is a delivery-focused role in a fast-moving, sprint-based environment, where you own your work end to end and care that what you ship is reliable.
Experience
- 3+ years as a software engineer in a product environment.
- Some exposure to real-time systems, and an interest in deepening it.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with teams such as embedded, mechanical, fullstack, and DevOps.
- Hands-on experience with Scrum or similar agile frameworks: sprint planning, estimation, release planning, and a track record of delivering working software on a regular cadence.
- Bonus: experience from scale-up environments, robotics, or autonomous systems.
Technical skills
- Strong proficiency in C++ (required); Python is a plus.
- Experience working in Linux environments.
- Git, CI/CD, and code review as part of daily work.
- Testing, debugging, and observability.
- Solid understanding of software architecture and design principles.
- Bonus: Experience with ROS, ROS 2, or other robotics middleware — and tools such as Gazebo, RViz, or Foxglove.
- Bonus: Experience working with localization, mapping, motion planning, control, and state estimation.
What you will do
- Develop and ship features across the robotics software stack (integration, control, communication, and infrastructure), from concept to production.
- Design and implement scalable interfaces for autonomy, perception, sensor fusion, and hardware interaction.
- Write clean, maintainable code for real-time robotic applications, and optimize for performance, reliability, and safety in live environments.
- Own tasks across the full lifecycle, from scoping and estimation to delivery and follow-up.
- Collaborate with adjacent teams, contribute to code reviews, documentation, and technical decisions, and troubleshoot systems running in production.
What we are looking for
- A delivery mindset with attention to quality and maintainability.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a fast-moving team.
- A pragmatic balance of speed and quality.
- Curiosity and a willingness to learn across domains.
- A collaborative communicator, fluent in written and spoken English.
Our tech stack
- Languages: C++, C, Python, Bash, Rust
- Robotics & middleware: ROS 1, ROS 2, CAN bus, MQTT, gRPC
- Simulation & visualization: Gazebo, RViz
- Embedded: Rust, C on the microcontrollers
- Platform & OS: Linux, custom Yocto distributions, OTA
- Cloud & fleet: AWS, AWS IoT Greengrass, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
- Build & tooling: CMake, colcon, catkin, ament, Git, Azure DevOps CI/CD, Claude Code
What we offer
- A chance to work hands-on with physical robots and write high-quality code that runs in real-world environments around the world.
- A dynamic, innovative, and collaborative engineering environment.
- A diverse, forward-thinking, and international team.
- A centrally located office at Skøyen, Oslo, close to public transport.
- Flexible working hours.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Opportunities for professional growth and influence over advanced robotics development.
