UX / Visual Design Services – Role Description & Working Model
Objective
We are seeking a consultancy partner to provide UX and Visual Design support for digital product initiatives. The selected partner should be able to provide a designer who can operate across both UX design and visual design responsibilities, working closely with our internal product, business, marketing, and development teams to translate requirements into clear, user-centered, development-ready design outputs.
Scope of Services
The consultant will be expected to support the end-to-end design process, from understanding requirements through to delivery and implementation verification. This includes interpreting business and product requirements, proposing user experience flows, creating wireframes and prototypes, producing high-fidelity visual designs in Figma, contributing to a component-based design system, and collaborating with developers during build and QA.
The ideal profile is a hybrid UX / Visual Designer who combines structured product thinking with strong visual execution, and who can work at pace using modern design and AI-assisted tooling to reduce turnaround times.
Key Responsibilities
The designer will be responsible for:
- Reviewing business requirements, product briefs, user stories, and functional specifications.
- Asking clarifying questions and identifying UX considerations, gaps, dependencies, or risks early in the process.
- Creating user journeys, interaction flows, wireframes, and prototypes as needed, including rapid, AI-assisted wireframing to accelerate early-stage ideation and reduce turnaround time.
- Producing high-fidelity UI and visual design assets in Figma.
- Working within existing brand, component library, design system, and accessibility standards, and helping to evolve them where needed.
- Creating new components or design patterns when needed, while maintaining consistency across the wider product experience and ensuring they are suitable for re-use.
- Defining and documenting component states, variants, responsive behaviors, and interaction rules so that designs can be translated efficiently for front-end implementation.
- Working directly with product owners, business stakeholders, and development teams to refine the solution, preparing development-ready design specifications, including layouts, states, interactions, annotations, responsive behavior, and edge cases.
- Supporting developers during implementation by answering design questions and clarifying expected behavior.
- Reviewing implemented functionality against the approved design and providing feedback during QA.
- Participating in design reviews, sprint ceremonies, and working sessions as appropriate.
- Producing sales and pre-sales design assets, including clickable demo prototypes and concept visuals to support commercial conversations and product demonstrations.
Expected Deliverables
Typical deliverables may include:
- UX flows and journey maps.
- Rapid wireframes or low-fidelity concepts.
- Interactive Figma prototypes.
- High-fidelity visual designs.
- UI components and design system updates.
- Design specifications and annotations for development, including states and responsive rules.
- Responsive desktop, tablet, and mobile layouts where required.
- QA review notes or implementation feedback.
- Final approved Figma files and related design assets.
Working Model
We expect the designer to work as an integrated extension of our internal team rather than as a purely handoff-based vendor. A key priority is speed of iteration – the partners should be about to turn around early-stage concepts quickly, using AI-assisted tooling where it accelerates output, before progressing to polished designs. Our team will provide business context, requirements, priorities, and access to relevant stakeholders.
The preferred working model is:
- Requirement Intake
- We provide the business requirements, product goals, user stories, or feature brief.
- Discovery & Clarification
- The designer reviews the material, identifies open questions, and participates in clarification sessions with stakeholders and product owners.
- Rapid wireframing
- The design produces fast, low-fidelity wireframes or concepts to establish direction quickly and reduce feedback cycles.
- UX Design
- Once direction is agreed, the designer develops flows, wireframes, interaction models, and proposed user experience approaches.
- Visual Design
- Once the UX direction is aligned, the designer creates polished Figma designs using applicable brand and design system standards.
- Review & Iteration
- Designs are reviewed with business, product, technology, and other stakeholders. The designer incorporates feedback and prepares final design outputs.
- Development Support
- The designer works with the development team to clarify design intent, interactions, edge cases, states, and responsive behavior.
- Implementation Verification
- Once built, the designer reviews the implementation against the approved design and provides feedback to ensure the final experience matches the intended UX and visual design.
Collaboration Expectations
The consultant should be comfortable working in an agile delivery environment and collaborating across business, product, design, and engineering teams. Strong communication skills are essential, as the designer will need to explain design decisions, manage feedback constructively, and ensure developers have the detail needed to execute accurately.
The designer should be available for regular working sessions, design reviews, and implementation check-ins. We expect proactive communication, timely delivery of design outputs, and a practical approach that balances user experience, visual quality, technical feasibility, and delivery timelines.
Skills & Experience Required
The ideal consultant should have experience with:
- UX design for enterprise, B2B, or complex digital applications.
- Visual/UI design with strong attention to layout, hierarchy, typography, spacing, and usability.
- Figma, including components, variants, prototyping, and design specifications.
- Design systems and reusable UI patterns.
- Rapid wireframing and ideation, including use of AI tools to improve turnaround
- Responsive web and application design.
- Accessibility-aware design practices.
- Working directly with developers during implementation.
- Reviewing built functionality and providing QA feedback.
- Agile product delivery environments.
Quote Request
Please provide a quote for supplying a UX / Visual Designer who can support the working model described above. The quote should include the proposed resource profile, hourly or monthly rate, expected availability, engagement model, onboarding timeline, and any assumptions regarding scope, tools, meetings, or delivery cadence.
