Frontend Developer Intern

JHC Consulting provides counsel to the leaders of major organizations during moments of significant strategic change. We are currently engaged by a major Austrian industrial manufacturer to conduct a series of rigorous reviews regarding their long term governance and operational trajectory. In this context, we require a Frontend Developer Intern to assist in the development of the private digital environments where our written work and analytical datasets are held and scrutinized. This role is not about creating flashy marketing materials or presentations. It is about building clean, functional interfaces that allow complex arguments to be read and understood by board members and chief executives without distraction.

The Role
As a Frontend Developer Intern, your primary responsibility is to support the technical realization of our written advisory work. While our output is fundamentally grounded in text, the way that text is accessed and how associated data is visualized remains a critical part of our mandate. You will spend your time building and maintaining internal tools that host our signed memoranda and financial models. This includes creating responsive, typography first web interfaces that honor the discipline of the written word. You will collaborate with our principals to ensure that the digital versions of our reports are as sharp and clear as the arguments they contain.
The daily work involves taking raw data structures related to the Austrian manufacturing project and translating them into clear, accessible tables and charts within our private web application. You will work on optimizing the reading experience, ensuring that footnotes, references, and appendices are easy to navigate. Because we do not use slide decks or traditional presentation software, our internal web platform is the primary vehicle for our counsel. You will be expected to write clean, maintainable code that reflects the same level of individual accountability we bring to our written prose.

What You Bring
We are looking for an individual who views software development through the lens of clarity and logic. While this is an internship, we expect a high degree of intellectual maturity and a deep respect for the craft of coding. You should have a functional understanding of modern frontend technologies, such as HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. Familiarity with a framework like React, Vue, or Svelte is helpful, but we value a strong grasp of fundamentals over a list of specific libraries. You should be comfortable discussing how a specific technical choice improves the readability or accessibility of information.
Since the firm is a remote practice, you must be capable of working independently and managing your own progress. You do not need years of professional experience, but you should be able to demonstrate your ability to learn quickly and follow a technical mandate to completion. A background in computer science, design, or a related field is useful. Most importantly, you must possess the same analytical rigor we apply to our consulting work: the ability to trace every technical decision back to a clear requirement or assumption. Your writing skills, particularly in technical documentation, should be precise and direct.
