Head of Legal – Europe (m/f/d) | Crypto / Digital Assets | Vienna

For a fast-growing international company in the crypto and digital assets space, we are looking for a senior Head of Legal (m/f/d) to lead and shape the legal function for the European business.

This is a strategic legal leadership role for someone with a strong background in regulated financial services and real exposure to crypto, digital assets, Web3, blockchain, trading platforms, or fintech.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the legal function for the European business
• Advise senior leadership on legal, regulatory, commercial, and corporate matters
• Support the company’s European growth and regulatory expansion strategy
• Work closely with Compliance, Risk, Finance, Product, Operations, and global Legal teams
• Provide legal guidance on crypto asset services, trading products, payments, digital assets, and regulated financial services
• Support topics related to MiCA, AML, DORA, PSD2, licensing, governance, and cross-border regulatory matters
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, partnership agreements, vendor contracts, and financial services-related documentation
• Manage legal risk and develop practical, business-oriented solutions
• Build scalable legal processes, policies, and documentation for a growing European entity
• Act as a trusted legal advisor to the European management team

Ideal profile:

• Qualified lawyer with around 10+ years of legal experience
• Strong background in banking, fintech, payments, capital markets, trading, financial services, or another regulated environment
• Substantial exposure to crypto, digital assets, Web3, blockchain, exchanges, trading platforms, or virtual asset service providers
• Solid understanding of EU financial services regulation
• Experience with MiCA, AML, licensing, financial services governance, and cross-border legal topics
• Experience working with regulators, external counsel, and senior internal stakeholders
• Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business growth
• Hands-on, pragmatic, structured, and comfortable in a fast-paced international environment
• Excellent English communication skills; German is highly beneficial
• Experience in an international or global setup is preferred
