Software Engineer
Fully Remote | UK & Europe
The Role:
We’re partnering with a growing Fintech business who are looking to recruit a Software Engineer to join their backend team working across a modern cloud based platform. The company’s core stack includes Kotlin and PHP. They are actively moving more services and new development towards Kotlin, but PHP remains an important part of the estate and is not being phased out entirely.
As a Software Engineer, you will be working as part of a small, cross functional team alongside engineers, product managers and other stakeholders, contributing to the design, build and improvement of customer-facing systems. The role would suit someone who enjoys working in a pragmatic environment where engineers have ownership, move quickly and care about building reliable, maintainable software.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll be involved in building and improving backend services across the platform, contributing to new Kotlin based development while also working with existing PHP services where needed.
- You’ll help design scalable, reliable systems, contribute to technical decisions, write clean and maintainable code, and work closely with product and engineering colleagues to ship meaningful improvements.
- Take ownership of your work, contribute to code reviews, support good engineering practices and help improve the platform as the company continues to grow.
Experience Required
- Software Engineer with strong backend engineering experience across cloud based environment.
- Experience with Kotlin or similar JVM technologies.
- Comfortable picking things up and contributing across the stack.
- Experience in fintech, lending, payments, banking or regulated environments would be useful, but it is not essential.
More important is that you are a strong engineer who can work independently, communicate well and contribute positively to a small engineering team.
