Applied AI / LLM Engineer - Frankfurt (Hybrid)
Our client is building the operating system for a fragmented, high-value industry. Not bolting AI onto legacy software, but making AI the architecture itself. Backed by a technology investor managing over $100bn in assets, with significant acquisition activity already underway across the DACH region, they're at an inflection point: category-defining ambition, early-stage team, real budget behind it.
They're hiring into their founding engineering pod.
What you'll be doing:
- Building the agentic harness and the production tools that run on top of it
- Shipping an email-triage pipeline and a compounding library of reusable Skills
- Owning evals, observability, and the production behaviour of the agents, including the eval gate in CI that blocks regressions before they merge
- Handling model selection and routing, with a constant eye on cost, latency, and accuracy
- Working across retrieval and the data layer (PostgreSQL, pgvector) as needed
- Prototyping in Claude Code and moving fast from spec to shipped
Tech stack:
Python, FastAPI. Agents SDK / LangGraph. PostgreSQL + pgvector. LiteLLM. Langfuse / Phoenix. Azure AI Foundry, Anthropic, Mistral. Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions
What they're looking for:
- Strong track record building and shipping production AI / LLM systems, not demos, not notebooks
- Fluent with agentic tooling and the broader LLMOps stack
- Concrete on evaluations: online vs. offline, traces structured for evaluability, eval gates as standard practice rather than an afterthought
- Solid Python and cloud infrastructure background (AWS or Azure)
- Comfortable owning observability and production reliability end to end
Our client especially values entrepreneurial energy. If you've founded something, been an early employee at a start-up, shipped a side project to real users, or generally prefer figuring things out over following a playbook, that instinct matters more to them than years at a big name. They're building from a genuine greenfield. The people who thrive here are the ones who default to building rather than waiting for a spec.
English is sufficient; German is a plus, not a requirement. Hybrid from Frankfurt, roughly 3 days a week.
