About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team delivering scalable, enterprise-grade software solutions. This role is suited to developers who enjoy designing and building robust backend services while working alongside cross-functional teams in an agile environment.

Depending on your experience, you'll have the opportunity to own key technical components, contribute to architectural decisions, and help shape the evolution of complex software platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and API services.
• Contribute to the delivery of scalable, secure and high-quality software solutions.
• Work closely with developers, architects and other stakeholders to deliver technical initiatives.
• Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following established engineering standards.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement across the development team.

Requirements

Essential Experience

• At least 4 years' commercial experience in software engineering.
• Strong backend development experience using Python and one or more modern frameworks such as Django, FastAPI or Flask.
• Experience building and supporting production applications within collaborative development teams.
• Good understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices principles and distributed application design.
• Strong SQL skills with experience working with relational databases, alongside exposure to NoSQL technologies.
• Ability to design, develop and deliver moderately complex software components with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality code.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Desirable Experience

• Experience working with distributed systems or service-oriented architectures.
• Exposure to containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience working with cloud platforms and modern CI/CD practices.
• Understanding of software engineering best practices including testing, automation and code quality.

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with NoSQL platforms such as MongoDB.
• Knowledge of graph database technologies, for example Neo4j or TigerGraph.
• Exposure to TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks including React or Angular.
• Experience delivering solutions within data-intensive or metadata-driven environments.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and an understanding of their responsible application within software engineering.

Remuneration Package
