About The Role

The Senior Staff Software Engineer - Mobile (Android) at Capital One Canada is a pivotal role that requires a highly skilled and experienced developer with a strong focus on native Android application development. This position does not involve direct reports but emphasizes advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architecture. As part of our dynamic software studio, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing scalable, secure, and innovative mobile solutions that align with our strategic business objectives.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include reviewing ongoing solution designs, evaluating emerging technologies, and overseeing high-level architectural frameworks. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—product managers, designers, and other engineers—is essential to ensure the delivery of high-quality mobile experiences. You will work closely with business partners to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and security protocols. Your expertise will help shape the future of our mobile platform, driving innovation while maintaining operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin.
• Extensive background in application design, technical architecture, and full development lifecycle management.
• Proficiency with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jetpack Compose.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring junior and senior developers, providing technical guidance and fostering best practices.
• Strong understanding of secure coding principles, performance optimization, and scalable architecture design.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Define and articulate the technical vision and strategy for complex, multi-domain Android platforms, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Act as a thought leader by influencing architectural roadmaps and guiding major technical investments across the organization.
• Participate actively throughout the Software Development Life Cycle, from planning and design to implementation and deployment.
• Mentor and coach engineers and technical leaders, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
• Evaluate and integrate new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance mobile platform capabilities and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop scalable, secure, and user-centric mobile solutions that meet business and security standards.
