We are looking for an Applied AI Engineer to join the team building HCAF (Healthcare AI Fabric), an AI-native patient access platform that automates scheduling, switchboard, refills, and patient communications for health systems running on EHR. We are building agentic systems that replicate real clinical and operational workflows at scale, and we are hiring engineers who have done this kind of work before.

You will model the patient-access domain as a graph and build the production retrieval that grounds HCAF's agents — the difference between an agent that guesses and one that knows.

What You'll Do

• Model the patient-access domain as a graph — EHR decision trees, scheduling rules, and provider/specialty/visit-type taxonomies — as the knowledge layer agents reason over.
• Build and own production RAG: ingest EHR Clarity exports and configuration, design indexing and hybrid/graph retrieval, and ground agent responses with citations.
• Make retrieval accurate and explainable in a clinical and operational setting, where a wrong answer carries real consequences.
• Tune retrieval quality with evals and keep the knowledge layer fresh as source systems change.

What We're Looking For

• Production RAG that real users depend on — ingestion, indexing, retrieval, grounding, and citation — beyond a prototype.
• Ability to model a messy real-world domain as a graph and query it fluently (Cypher/Neo4j or equivalent).
• Retrieval depth: embeddings, hybrid and graph retrieval, reranking, and rigorous evaluation of retrieval quality.
• Strong Python and data-pipeline skills.
• Solid working knowledge of LLMs.
• A strong grasp of token usage best practices — this is essential. Candidates must be familiar with Redis, the platform used as our caching layer.
• Understanding of context windows, RAG systems, databases, LangGraph, LangChain, and AI agents — baseline knowledge expected of any AI-focused engineer.

Nice to have

• Healthcare data, EHR/Clarity, or FHIR experience.
• Knowledge graphs in production.
• LangGraph or other agent frameworks.
