Windows Cloud Experiences is developing a best-in-class spatial and immersive cloud computing platform to enable MR apps and experiences.

We have an immediate opening for a Software Engineer on the Windows Cloud Streaming and Graphics Team.

We strongly believe that shifting workloads to the cloud is the future of Mixed Reality, but also traditional desktop computing.

In the Cloud Streaming and Graphics team, we are leveraging the power of Azure to enable stunning experiences on even the smallest, lowest powered devices. We build key technologies for low-latency streaming, innovating in areas such as real-time graphics, network resiliency, and video codecs, and bring powerful cloud compute anywhere through products such as Windows 365, Holographic Remoting, and the Windows app.

We are looking for a C++ software engineer with a solid background and passion in some or all of these areas to complement our team and join us on this exciting journey!

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Developing the next generation of cloud streaming technology for Mixed Reality experiences
  • Designing, implementing, and evolving new tools and techniques to analyze and improve the visual quality and responsiveness of cloud rendering
  • Working in close partnership with a team of diverse and talented peers in various disciplines including design, hardware, Program Management, and Software Development for sustained long term success, and partnering with your peers and technical leadership to deliver solid technical designs and architectures
  • Working on all aspects of Software Development including design, implementation, testing, maintenance, documentation and delivery
  • End-to-end ownership of your engineering activities and deliverables, from ideation to delivery
  • You are expected to be a self-starter, capable of solving ambiguous and challenging technical problems with wide scope
  • You will be expected to lead by example and maintain the standard and craftsmanship embodied in our products

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND intermediate technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Solid C++ development and debugging skills.
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment on a shared code base.
  • Solid knowledge of mathematics and linear algebra.
Other Qualifications

Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements that are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant professional software development experience
  • Experience developing, debugging, profiling, and optimizing code on different hardware platforms and different operating systems, in particular mobile, low-power compute platforms such as standalone AR or VR headsets
  • Experience developing applications for devices running Windows and Android operating systems
  • OS networking stacks (on any OS)
  • Low-latency data transmission over wireless networks
  • Video codecs and low-latency, high-throughput video encoding/decoding
  • Machine Learning and its application in networking and/or video/audio
