Software Engineer

Akkodis is a specialized IT & Engineering consultancy with over 30 years’ experience providing consultants to our key partners, both globally and in the Netherlands. Currently, we are recruiting a Software Engineer for assignment with one of our clients, civil-military organization dedicated to supporting European aviation based in Maastricht.

Job Overview: The client is tasked with the provision of Air Traffic Control (ATC) services to civil air traffic in the upper airspace over Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the north-western part of Germany; for the latter the service also contains the provisioning of Operational Air Traffic Control (OAT).

Within MUAC, the Technical Systems unit (TS) is responsible for providing a cost-effective and timely support service to maintain the high-level operational availability and functionality of all the technical systems. The TS/HMI (Human Machine Interface) team is in charge of, amongst others, the Controller Working Position systems and software. In addition to performing and coordinating maintenance and improvements of the Controller Working Position (CWP) systems and software, the TS/HMI team is involved in multiple in-house projects necessitating CWP development work.

With the SAS2 project a shared ATS system has been deployed and is currently used by Belgian Defence.

The SAS2 provides Operational Air traffic (OAT) services, with remote CWPs installed at Skeyes and at the Belgian Defence ATC towers, connected through a dedicatedVirtual Private Networkto the PRI-ATS system in the On- Line system ( ONL) and Test and Training (TTI) partitions at MUAC. The SAS2 regularly requires adaptations of the CWP to develop/implement additional specific military functionalities.

In the context of the SAS2, the Technical System (TS/HMI) team seeks to hire the services of a contractor to develop software changes and perform documentation updates in collaboration with the TS/HMI team members.

Technical/Professional Qualifications:

Mandatory:

• At least 3 years’ experience developing large-scale (>100 kSLOC) operational HMI software, preferably in a Unix environment.
• At least 3 years’ experience using modern C++, including C++11, C++17, C++20, and template programming.
• At least 1 year of experience in developing and maintaining software and documentation in accordance with recognized industrial quality and safety standards (SWAL 3 or equivalent).
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and to present key issues and possible/recommended solutions in a clear, structured, and concise way – minimum 3 years of experience.
• Higher technical education in Computer Science or Information Technology, with a focus on Software Engineering, or equivalent professional knowledge.

Desirable:

• At least 3 years’ experience with an HMI framework.

Mandatory:

• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and to present key issues and possible/recommended solutions in a clear, structured, and concise way
• Experience in writing high-quality technical documentation (specifications, design documents, test descriptions, user manuals, etc.).
• Experience in working as a team player.
• Experience in acting as a business analyst, for example, to seek missing information and clarify requirements in a proactive way.
