Position Overview
As a UX Designer at OSC, you will play a critical role in crafting intuitive, user-friendly experiences for our SaaS platform, which addresses the simulation needs of both the Ocean (marine) sector and smart-city initiatives. You will collaborate closely with product managers, software developers, and stakeholders to ensure our platform meets the demands of diverse user groups—ranging from maritime professionals to urban planners. Your expertise in user research, prototyping, and interaction design will drive the evolution of a powerful product that simplifies complex simulations for real-world applications.

Position Overview
As a UX Designer at OSC, you will play a critical role in crafting intuitive, user-friendly experiences for our SaaS platform, which addresses the simulation needs of both the Ocean (marine) sector and smart-city initiatives. You will collaborate closely with product managers, software developers, and stakeholders to ensure our platform meets the demands of diverse user groups—ranging from maritime professionals to urban planners. Your expertise in user research, prototyping, and interaction design will drive the evolution of a powerful product that simplifies complex simulations for real-world applications.

- On-site (location: Ålesund, Norway)
- (Some travel may be required, depending on project and event needs.)
- User Research & Analysis
- Conduct interviews, focus groups, and usability tests with stakeholders in marine and urban environments.
- Translate research insights into user journeys, personas, and design opportunities.
- Interaction & Visual Design
- Develop wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes using industry-standard tools (Figma).
- Define and maintain design guidelines that ensure consistency and usability across the entire SaaS product.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with product owners and developers to clarify requirements, discuss technical feasibility, and align on design solutions.
- Use Jira (or similar project management tools) to write clear, detailed user stories, define scope for development tasks and feedback into development sprints.
- Present concepts and gather feedback from cross-functional teams, iterating based on stakeholder input.
- Usability Testing & Iteration
- Plan and execute testing sessions, gathering quantitative and qualitative feedback on design prototypes.
- Incorporate insights to refine design solutions and enhance user experience for simulation scenarios in marine and city contexts.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Stay updated on UX best practices, emerging design trends, and relevant industry developments in ocean and urban simulation.
- Proactively suggest improvements or new features that elevate the overall user experience.
- Extended Project Responsibilities
- Sandbox Project Work & Data Files: Use Sandbox (OSC simulation software) and Excel to create data files and assist with SBX-based project engineering.
- 3D Scenery & Scene Building: Develop 3D models (using tools like 3ds Max or Rhino) and build simulation scenes within SBX.
- Video Production: Record Sandbox project videos, edit using software such as Adobe Premiere or DaVinci, and assist with creating marketing materials/videos.
- HMI/OSC Application Design: Utilize Figma to design user interfaces and workflows for HMI (Human-Machine Interface) and OSC applications.
- Website Maintenance: Update and maintain the company website using WordPress.
- Vimeo & Media Management: Use Dropbox and Vimeo to update video content and ensure our media library is consistently maintained.
- Experience
- 2–4 years of professional UX design experience (or equivalent), ideally within a SaaS or technology-driven environment.
- Demonstrated portfolio showcasing user-centric design processes, prototypes, and final deliverables.
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Interaction Design, HCI, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred—but relevant experience may substitute formal education.
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency with UX design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- Understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles, especially important for complex data visualization.
- Domain Knowledge
- Simulation & Virtual Prototyping: Familiarity with design considerations for simulation tools, digital twins, or related products.
- Ocean & Urban Markets: Awareness of user needs in maritime, offshore, or port operations, as well as municipal or city-planning contexts.
- User-Centered Methodologies: Ability to tailor UX research methods to diverse user groups, from marine engineers to urban planners.
- Soft Skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of explaining design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with a knack for balancing multiple projects.
- Collaborative mindset, open to constructive feedback and able to iterate quickly.
