As a Python Backend Engineer, you’ll be an integral part of our small but mighty engineering team, reporting directly to the CTO. You’ll be responsible for building the backbone of our platform’s core features, ensuring reliability, scalability, and top-tier performance. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a startup environment, loves solving complex problems, and is excited to shape the future of our platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and deploy backend services and functions in Python to support the application’s core features
- Design RESTful APIs and endpoints to power frontend clients and integrations
- Implement data models and queries to interact with Google Cloud Platform’s document-based datastores (e.g., Firestore/Datastore)
- Write efficient, reusable, and modular Python code for a monolithic architecture
- Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to design and implement solutions that meet business requirements
- Optimize backend performance, ensuring scalability, reliability, and low latency
- Debug and resolve production issues quickly and effectively.
- Write unit tests and contribute to automated testing pipelines to maintain code quality
- Participate in code reviews, share feedback, and ensure engineering best practices are followed
- Document technical specifications, API contracts, and system components
Required Skills:
- 3-5 years of experience developing backend systems and services in Python
- Proficiency with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Strong expertise in designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of NoSQL data stores and data modeling
- Knowledge of software engineering principles: modular design, error handling, and scalability
- Experience writing unit tests (e.g., using pytest) and familiarity with CI/CD practices
- Proficiency with version control tools (Git)
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker
Nice-to-Have Skills:
- Experience working on monolithic architectures for SaaS applications
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, specifically Datastore
- Exposure to microservices or familiarity with migration strategies from monoliths to distributed systems
- Knowledge of GCP tools for performance optimization and monitoring (e.g., Stackdriver)
- Basic understanding of frontend technologies for collaboration (e.g., React, Next.js)
