Job Overview:


The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the end-to-end lifecycle of the enterprise data lake project. This includes all planning and coordination tasks including: the capture of requirements and current state assessment, technology and business process design, implementation, and testing/operationalization while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Our desired candidate will have a strong working knowledge of cloud-based data lake concepts, architectures, and technologies, and a sound technical foundation based on Microsoft Azure (ADLS, ADF and Event Hubs, as well as SQL, SSIS and PowerBI). The ideal candidate will also have experience in managing compliance with data governance and risk practices, including exposure to master data modelling, data classification and risk assessment for data. Critically, the ideal candidate has proven experience managing successful data lake projects.


Please note our head office is located in downtown Toronto, and this is a hybrid opportunity with 2 days/week in office.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Participate in current state process mapping / inventorying as it pertains to the capture/ingestion and use of data for reporting, analytics and data science purposes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets. You are comfortable with Microsoft Project and working with Atlassian tools (ie - Jira, Confluence)
  • Coordinate with technical teams, including data analysts and data scientists, was well as technical architects, engineers, and developers, to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Support definition of appropriate testing/validation and change management processes in partnership with business and testing teams.
  • Manage stakeholder communications, expectations, and approvals.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and resolve issues to ensure project success. You are comfortable with the use of a RAID log for these purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with data security and governance requirements.
  • Report on project status, progress, and KPIs to leadership. You are comfortable with the use of PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Teams as primary collaboration and productivity software tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned into future projects.


Qualifications: Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field is an asset, but secondary to accumulated experience (see below).
  • 7+ years of experience as a project / program manager, preferably with a strong focus on data infrastructure projects, including:
  • At least two (2) data lake projects, and
  • At least one (1) project involving the deployment of Azure-based data solutions (ie – data lake / warehouse using ADLS, ADF and Event Hubs, as well as SQL, SSIS and PowerBI).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Project and Atlassian tools (ie - Jira, Confluence)
  • Proficient in the use of PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Teams.
  • Strong understanding of Azure technologies, including Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI.
  • Familiarity with data governance, security, and compliance practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (both written and oral, in English), and leadership skills.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.


Qualifications: Nice To Have


  • PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and compliance requirements pertaining to PII, PCI-DSS, HIPPA and GDPR is preferred.
