On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a UX-UI Designer to support our large-scale business modernization program. This role extends beyond designing a single technology platform; the designer will work on multiple projects, tools, and systems to establish a cohesive and unified user experience across all touchpoints.
Responsibilities:
The UX/UI Consultant will play a critical role in the success of the Business Modernization program by designing user-centric experiences that drive efficiency, usability, and consistency across organizational tools, systems, and platforms. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, the following requirements:
• User research and analysis
o Conduct user research to understand the needs, pain points, and behaviors of diverse user groups, including internal stakeholders and external customers.
o Gather feedback via interviews, surveys, focus groups, and usability testing
o Create detailed user personas and journey maps to guide the design process
• Design and development of User-Centric Solutions
o Design intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for the primary platform and other tools or systems within the program.
o Work collaboratively with implementation partners to develop wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to communicate design concepts effectively.
o Ensure the designs are aligned with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG compliance)
o Collaborate with developers to ensure accurate implementation of the designs
• Establish Unified Design System
o Create and maintain a comprehensive design system, including components, system guides, and interaction patterns, to promote consistency across all systems and projects
o Define and document design principles, tones, and guidelines for use by other teams
o Work with the branding teams to ensure alignment with the organizational visual identity
• Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams
o Partner with product managers, business analysts, developers, solution providers, implementation partners, and other stakeholders to align design work with business goals and technical feasibility.
o Participate in workshops, brainstorming sessions, and review meetings to co-create solutions.
o Provide expert guidance on best practices in UX/UI design to support overall program objectives.
• Usability Testing and Iterations
o Conduct usability testing on prototypes and final design to identify and resolve issues early in the development process.
o Use data from analytics tools and user feedback to refine and improve designs iteratively
• Support Business Modernization Goals
o Assist in integrating new tools, technologies, and systems into the business ecosystems by ensuring a seamless user experience across all the platforms.
o Ensure scalability and adaptability of the design to accommodate future enhancement and integrations
• Reporting and Documentation
o Document design decisions, research findings, and testing outcomes for future reference and stakeholder communication
o Provide regular updates to program leadership on progress, challenges, and key achievements
• Training and knowledge transfer
o Train internal teams on the design system and UX/UI best practices to ensure long-term sustainability
o Create guides and resources to support the organization's ongoing design efforts
This role requires a proactive, collaborative, and strategic approach to design, with a focus on creating a unified and high-quality user experience with the Business Modernization program vision.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in UX/UI Design, Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
• Active Certifications in User Experience design, such as Certified User Experience Analyst (CXA) by Human Factors International (HFI) - Focuses on advanced UX strategies and aligning UX design with business goals, UX Design by Google, Nilesen Norman Group certifications, or equivalent.
• A minimum of five years of experience in UX/UI design with a proven track record of designing and delivering user-centric digital solutions.
• Experience in creating wireframes, prototypes, and mockups tailored to user needs preferably in the agriculture, insurance, crop insurance, public service or financial services industry.
• Experience conducting user research and usability testing preferably with producers/farmers, agents and agriculture stakeholders.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in designing complex data-driven platforms, preferably within the public sector, citizen services, agriculture, or insurance context.
• Local Knowledge - the organization is interested in understanding the Resource’s experience with the Government of the province, Crown Corporations, or comparable entities, as it relates to the technical and business landscape.
• Familiarity with SAAS P&C insurance platforms, especially in designing interfaces and workflow policy, billing, and claims management.
• Proficiency in industry-standard design tools and software, with a strong understanding of user experience principles and best practices
• Experience in responsive design and accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Familiarity with, and ensuring alignment with Canadian data privacy laws (e.g., Saskatchewan’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
• Strong understanding of data visualization techniques.
• Experience collaborating with stakeholders including employees, external vendors, advocacy groups (e.g. producer or commodity organizations), and government agencies
