About This Role

Are you passionate about shaping impactful user experiences through data-driven insights? At Udemy, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Data Services team. This dynamic team plays a pivotal role in creating tools that empower client platforms to deliver personalized user experiences through A/B testing, real-time event tracking, and actionable business metrics.

As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with product managers, designers, and data professionals to build scalable solutions that enhance experimentation capabilities, streamline event tracking, and improve metric computation. Your work will directly contribute to better learning experiences for millions of users worldwide.

What you'll be doing

• Develop and maintain systems that support A/B testing, enabling data-driven decision-making.
• Build robust tools for client-side and server-side event tracking to capture user behavior at scale.
• Collaborate with data teams to design and implement reliable metric computation systems for business insights.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable engineering solutions.
• Participate actively in daily standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, working cross-functionally to drive product innovation.
• Solve complex, high-impact technical challenges, continually refactor for robustness, performance, and scalability.
• Ensure high-quality code and architecture through thorough reviews, testing, and documentation.
  
  

What you’ll have

• 4+ years of professional full stack software development experience, including backend technologies in Python, Java, Kotlin, etc. and modern web development frameworks and technologies like React, TypeScript, etc.
• Experience in microservices architecture, including design and implementation of microservice-based solutions.
• Experience in gRPC, a high-performance, open-source framework for remote procedure call communication. Familiarity with its implementation for efficient and scalable communication between microservices.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Understanding of NoSQL databases and caching solutions such as Redis and DynamoDB for optimizing data access.
• Understanding of data streaming technologies like Kafka for real-time data processing.
• Experience in optimizing code for performance and efficiency.
• Experience in debugging and troubleshooting complex technical issues in a live production environment.
• Understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying and managing containerized applications at scale.
• Understanding of cloud platforms, particularly AWS, for scalable and resilient backend solutions.
• Experience in collaboration with medium-sized agile development teams, contributing to cross-functional projects.
• Passion for learning, teaching, and contributing to a positive team culture.
• Well organized, disciplined, and able to manage time and priorities effectively.
