Principal Engineer - Control System

Overview

The Principal Engineer - Control System will execute the engineering, design, and implementation of control systems for offshore oil and gas projects.

This includes working on RTU/SCADA systems, Process Control Systems (PCS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Fire & Gas (F&G) Detection & Alarming systems, and Turbo compressor systems.

The role requires strong expertise in system specifications, vendor coordination, and integration, with a focus on cybersecurity, alarm rationalization, and communication protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering and design activities for control systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Prepare technical specifications, requisitions, and perform technical bid evaluations (TBE) for control system components such as RTU/SCADA, PCS/ESD, and F&G systems.
• Manage vendor follow-up, testing (FAT/SAT), and ensure system integration aligns with project requirements.
• Ensure cybersecurity best practices and compliance with standards for control systems and network architectures.
• Perform alarm rationalization, network architecture design, and communication protocol implementation for control systems.
• Provide engineering support during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and fabrication phases.
• Lead control system site surveys and provide detailed reports on findings and recommendations.
• Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring proper integration and functionality of control systems.
• Ensure adherence to Qatar Gas, Qatar Petroleum, and other Gulf standards throughout all project phases.
  
  

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  
  

Certifications / Specialization / IT Skills

• Specialization in Instrumentation & Control Systems.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) for reporting and documentation.
  
  

Years Of Experience

• More than 10 years of experience in control system engineering, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
  
  

Technical Knowledge

• Extensive experience in the specification, requisition, technical bid evaluation (TBE), and vendor follow-up for RTU/SCADA, PCS/ESD, and F&G Detection & Alarming systems.
• Knowledge of PLC systems for Turbo compressor control and familiarity with cybersecurity principles, alarm rationalization, and communication protocols.
• Experience working with QG/QP standards, including site surveys, report preparation, and assistance during pre-commissioning and fabrication phases.
