Senior Business Analyst - Data & Analytics

Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Analyst with deep expertise in Business Intelligence (BI) tools, BI databases, and data services within the insurance or finance industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of BI features, database management, and functionality and be able to advise clients on optimal usage strategies. This role also requires experience with data analytics services beyond BI tools, including data embedding, data sharing, data extracts, and aggregations for other systems and users.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working across multiple concurrent projects and domains, leveraging industry knowledge to deliver strategic insights, optimize solutions, and support effective data management for stakeholders at all levels.

Key Responsibilities

BI and Analytics Advisory: Guide stakeholders in the use and configuration of BI tools to maximize feature utilization and improve decision-making processes. Advise customers on options for data embedding, sharing, extracts, and aggregation strategies for use by other systems or users.
Requirements Gathering: Conduct detailed requirements sessions with both internal and external stakeholders, translating business needs into actionable technical specifications.
Insurance or Finance Domain Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of the insurance or finance sectors, demonstrating the ability to work with multiple domain data, including sales, billing, subledger, and policy data, to develop solutions that align with industry regulations and customer needs.
Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple domains and teams, leading workshops, gathering feedback, and facilitating effective communication.
Documentation Excellence: Create clear, high-quality documentation (e.g., BRDs, FRDs, data models, user stories) that supports alignment across business and technical teams.
Project Leadership and Agile Collaboration: Serve as the lead Business Analyst on Agile projects, driving requirements gathering, contributing to sprint planning, and actively participating in retrospectives to support the successful delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
BI Data Model Development: Contribute to BI data model improvements and design new BI dashboards that address evolving business needs, ensuring data accuracy, relevance, and usability for stakeholders.
Requirements Lifecycle Management: Manage the full lifecycle of requirements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and validating implemented solutions.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, or a related field. Certifications in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA) are preferred.
Experience:

Insurance or Finance: 2+ years of experience in insurance, finance, or related sectors, with expertise across multiple industry domains (e.g., life, health, property & casualty) – preferred.
Business Analysis Leadership: Proven experience as a Senior Business Analyst or in a similar role, overseeing complex projects and cross-functional teams.
BI and Analytics: Hands-on experience advising and supporting stakeholders on BI tool capabilities. Experience with data services, data aggregation, and embedding solutions – preferred.
Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated success working with internal and external customers, managing requirement sessions, and leading workshops.
Documentation Mastery: Skilled in creating and managing documentation (BRDs, FRDs, data models ERD, user stories, etc.).
Agile Project Experience: Expertise in Agile environments, with a solid understanding of Scrum, Kanban, and Agile best practices.
Project and Domain Management: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, effectively managing requirements and stakeholder needs across various domains, including sales, billing, subledger, and policy data.

Technical Skills

BI Tools and Data Services:

Strong proficiency in BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Sisense, Streamlit) with knowledge of advanced features for data visualization and reporting.
Familiarity with data sharing, extracts, embedding, and aggregations for data integration with other systems – preferred.
Basic experience with SQL for data querying and analysis, including knowledge of SQL editors and experience with databases such as Snowflake, Postgres, or other SQL databases.
Understanding of ER diagrams.

Tools and Documentation:

Advanced Excel skills (e.g., data manipulation, pivot tables).
Proficient in Jira, Confluence, and Lucidchart for tracking, documentation, and diagramming – preferred.

Data Analytics and Reporting: Experience with data warehouses, basic data modeling, and report generation for data-driven insights.
