ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re seeking an experienced Head of Trading to lead and scale our trading operations and strategies. You will be the driving force behind Coinmerce’s trading desk—leading a team, managing day-to-day activities, refining algorithmic trading models, and ensuring robust risk management. You will collaborate closely with quantitative developers, trading engineers, fundamental analysts, treasury, product, compliance, and risk teams. Your core objective is to maximize yield by seizing market inefficiencies and ensuring all pre-conditions for profitable trading are in place.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day trading activities (market-making, arbitrage, and other strategies) by providing guidance and ensuring processes run smoothly.
• Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term trading goals and business expansion initiatives.
• Lead and empower a team of traders, ensuring clear goals, resources, and support are in place and coordinate to optimize algorithms, strengthen platform functionality, and improve trading efficiency.
• Ensure all pre-conditions for success are in place, work with teams to continuously refine strategies and address operational bottlenecks.
• Keep abreast of industry trends and emerging asset classes to steer the trading team’s strategic direction.
• Monitor market conditions, news, and trends; coordinate with analysts and traders to capitalize on opportunities and manage risks.
• Present trading results, risk updates, and growth plans to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.

What you bring:

• 5–7 years of experience in trading or related financial services, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
• Good understanding of digital assets and traditional financial markets.
• Familiarity with market-making, arbitrage, and risk management practices (hands-on experience a plus, but not the main focus).
• Track record of successfully coordinating cross-functional projects and resources and Strong communication skills—capable of aligning multiple teams around shared objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex strategies and performance metrics to non-technical stakeholders.
• A degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent experience in trading and financial markets.
• Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.

Nice to have:

• Strong programming skills in Python, with high-level knowledge of building high-performance low-latency trading systems;
• Familiarity with blockchain protocols, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystems, as well as the technical infrastructure behind digital assets, to leverage emerging opportunities in the crypto space;
• Experience in designing and implementing automated risk management processes, including real-time monitoring of market exposure, position limits, and liquidity risk, particularly in volatile and illiquid markets.
