About the opportunity..
The core responsibilities of the Product Designer - Design System includes but are not limited to:
- Collaboration and communication: Work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, Design team, and Engineers to understand the user needs, product requirements and business objectives contributing to the creation of new components or enhancement of existing ones.
- Component library creation: Through product research and UI audits, design and document reusable components, patterns, and guidelines that streamline the design and development process, promoting consistency and coherence across the ELMO product suite.
- Research and innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design systems, and proactively incorporate innovative solutions that enhance our design process and product experiences.
- Maintaining design standards: Establish and enforce design standards, guidelines, and governance processes to ensure the integrity and maintainability of the design system over time.
- Mentorship and leadership: Seek guidance and mentorship from senior team members, while contributing to a collaborative and supportive design team environment that encourages learning and growth.
- Support: Collaborate with other Product Designers on projects as needed, providing hands-on design work and occasionally taking on design tasks to support team objectives, while managing your primary design responsibilities.
- Data-Informed Design: Apply data analytics and user feedback to guide your design decisions, ensuring that your solutions address real user needs and behaviours. Regularly evaluate the impact of design changes using metrics and user testing, and refine designs based on these insights to improve user experience.
Positional Qualifications, Attributes and Skills:
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Product Design, with a focus on design systems, preferably in a fast-paced tech environment.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in designing and implementing design systems, including component libraries, style guides and UI patterns across multiple projects.
- Tools: Our component library is made in Figma. Demonstrated experience utilising best practices and advanced features to streamline design workflows, promote collaboration, and ensure consistency across projects within the design system.
- Design thinking: Deep understanding of design principles, user-centred design methodologies, and design thinking, with a keen eye for detail and aesthetics.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and evangelise ELMO's design system during company-wide showcases.
- Collaboration Skills: Demonstrate strong collaboration abilities with a proven track record of contributing to design initiatives, working closely with other designers, and effectively engaging with stakeholders to achieve project goals and deliver high-quality results.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively while maintaining a positive attitude and attention to quality.
