About Credit & Fraud Risk Finance

Credit & Fraud Risk (CFR) Finance team delivers fact-based, decision-driven and high-impact credit-risk related insights and deep analytics, P&L stress tests to support regulatory views and governance processes and the forecasting of Net Loss Provision. The key objective is to drive prudent financial decisions and support credit-risk strategies while ensuring adherence to governance and controls. This position will be part of a highly talented team with strong intellectual curiosity.

About The Analyst - Risk Finance Data Science

This role will be a part of the CCAR Volumes team within Credit & Fraud Risk Finance under Corporate Planning (CP&A). The primary responsibility of the team is to leverage data, latest tools, and advanced techniques to innovate and help the organization make sound forecasts of the company’s Billed Business and Loan amounts for all of AXP in the context of the annual Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) exercise.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Develop and maintain econometric models used to forecast Billed Business and Loans for US portfolios and key international markets
  • Analyze portfolio/market trends and identify key drivers of forecast performance
  • Update model documentation submitted to internal validation teams and external regulators
  • Support various stress testing exercises across AXP, including Bank Holding Company and local market Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and American Express National Bank (AENB) Macroeconomic Stress Testing
  • Present and defend statistical modeling techniques to various internal and external stakeholders, including Model Risk Management Group (MRMG), Internal Audit Group (IAG), AENB Board of Directors, Federal Reserve Board (FRB), and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)
  • Partner with various cross-functional teams, including Treasury, Corporate Planning, and Risk

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in quantitative field such as mathematics, computing or statistics
  • Strong understanding of statistical/predictive models, data extraction and analytical techniques
  • Experience using statistical software (Python and SQL) and manipulating large data sets for development of statistical/predictive models

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience with a degree in quantitative field such as mathematics or statistics
  • Experience building models using machine learning algorithms including Regression, Gradient Boosting, or other techniques.
  • Ability to break down complex ideas into understandable and actionable messages
  • Curious & Analytical - Ability to ask thoughtful questions and exhibit the ability to define a path to answer those questions.

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
