Design System Technical Lead

Job Description

As the Design System Technical Lead, you will collaborate closely with the Design System Product Manager and the Design Lead to shape the technical direction of the Design System across all supported platforms. Your role will involve removing blockers, answering questions from the design lead, and partnering with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including Web, iOS, and Android Engineers, Design Specialists, and Digital and IT Program Management teams.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for and drive adoption of the design system internally.
• Optimize the developer experience.
• Guide and defend technology choices, standards, and architectural decisions.
• Conduct stakeholder research to identify gaps and opportunities within the system (technical implementation).
• Drive innovation while maintaining and establishing technical standards.
• Perform daily code reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
• Balance the long-term vision with immediate implementation needs.
• Monitor and report on the health and adoption of the design system.
• Ensure quality assurance of deliverables.
• Share technical articles, advice, and ideas with the team.
• Challenge technical team members to continuously improve.

Qualifications

• Platform-agnostic knowledge (or willingness to learn) across all platforms and design tools.
• Strong front-end development skills, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• (Optional) Knowledge of mobile development languages such as Kotlin and Swift.
• Familiarity with frameworks and libraries like React, Storybook, Lit, and Style Dictionary.
• Proficiency in version control using Git.
• Experience working with design tools such as Figma.
• Understanding of automated testing tools, including Playwright and Jest.
• Knowledge of WCAG accessibility guidelines.
