Department Description

We are rare amongst banks in that our senior leadership team includes backgrounds at world-leading fintech's, which shows in their active engagement with our cross-functional Product Squads, and in our bank-wide adoption of modern tools & techniques such as Scrum/Kanban and Jira/Confluence/Miro.

We are working on one of the last untapped fintech opportunities, which is banking to established small & medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Because we're breaking new ground, it often means that we're working on new technological challenges. We are leveraging the Azure Tech Stack to build scalable and highly available applications using architectural patterns like microservices and micro-frontends.

Purpose of role:

As Lead Mobile Engineer (Flutter), you will have a strong, commercially proven specialisation in Flutter framework the Dart language. Ideally with native iOS/Android development experience. You will use your wider technical experience to collaborate with your peers and other teams. You will be able to apply SOLID development principles with consideration for security, testability and maintenance at scale. A methodical, architectural approach to solving problems is a must. Taking ownership of all aspects of the software development lifecycle across mobile, with awareness of areas of integration with other disciplines.

You are able to take your knowledge and eye for detail and apply it across feature delivery and technical enablement for your team members. Providing leadership to other mobile engineers; you will share your passion and experience with others and encourage a collaborative culture as well as supporting less experienced teammates to grow and develop

Your remit will go beyond projects as the wider engineering community will look to you for coaching and advice. You will be a strong influence on others and your success will largely be based on that.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Work as part of multidisciplinary teams, developing our Flutter app and collaborating with other teams
• Plan and prioritise your work, with the appropriate input from others
• Own and refine a backlog of technical improvement for the mobile app codebase
• Build up a solid understanding of the domain you are working in, and proactively identify and clarify new requirements
• Help run your community of practice, encouraging broad participation
• Use your understanding of Allica and its goals, to identify ways to enhance client relationships & develop new capabilities
• Mentor and support more junior colleagues e.g. through pair programming, answering questions
• Collaboration with product owners, backend engineers and other stakeholders to facilitate the development of new features and applications.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement in your specialism and in your Community of Practice, leading by example.
• Help run your community of practice, encouraging broad participation.
• Proactively seek out learning opportunities for you and your colleagues.
• Help more junior colleagues plan their careers and progress at Allica.
• Line management of team members.

Experience:

• Collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders to drive alignment, build trust, and foster engagement across multiple areas.
• Strong Flutter/Dart commercial experience used in applying good design patterns resulting in highly testable code
• Swift/ObjectiveC/Java/Kotlin language skills or experience in a strongly typed modern language.
• Experience with different architectures such as MVVM, MVP, VIP etc. Modularising features and application structure.
• Hands on experience with mobile UI development:
• Collaboration with designers using tools like Figma
• Developing within a design system
• Accessibility/Localisation/Responsive UI
• Team lead experience and experience as a supportive line manager

Extensive experience with:

• Git source control (e.g. git flow, trunk-based development, interactive rebasing)
• Testing frameworks covering Unit, Integration, UI Snapshot (golden) testing
• code quality and formatting tools
• working in an Agile environment (following Scrum/KANBAN)
• collaborating with designers, test engineers and 3rd parties

A solid understanding of:

• SOLID principles and TDD/BDD
• continuous integration and setting up of a CI/CD environment
• Assuring quality gates and policies met on pull requests to trunk
• mobile apps security (networking and certificate pinning, storage, code obfuscation, anti-tamper protections)
• REST APIs and microservices architecture
• Ability and passion for technology in general. Interest in learning new skills outside of their area
