Are you passionate about cybersecurity and eager to apply your skills in a real-world environment? We are looking for a Network Security Researcher, Summer Trainee to join our Research Team for the summer of 2025!

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience and do research on Network Security topics in the consumer mass-market context. You will be doing research on how network data and network functions or devices can be used to provide protection from scams and other cyber threats for consumers in their everyday online activities and in the connected home.

What you’ll be doing

Depending on your skills and interest there are opportunities in a board range of network function & data research topics including 5G edge networking and APIs, DNS, data plane performance and traffic analysis for threat detection. From the more non-real-time network data-oriented point of view, there are opportunities to study things like network data enrichment and threat detection using AI.

This is a 5-6 month program starting in May or June 2025, providing you with an excellent opportunity to contribute to meaningful cybersecurity initiatives.

What we’re looking for

Having a collaborative and growth-oriented mindset will make a big difference in this role. You'll be working with diverse teams, contributing to shared goals, and learning along the way. Curiosity and a proactive approach are key—we encourage you to take initiative and explore challenges independently. Proficient communication skills in English will help you share your insights and document your findings effectively. Being open to learning, working as part of a team, and adapting to new situations will support your success. We’d also love for you to join us at our Helsinki office regularly (1-2 days per week) to collaborate and connect with the team.

Technical Skills

• Understanding of internet infrastructure – Whether you have a broad overview or in-depth knowledge, an interest in how networks operate is key.
• Knowledge of mobile or fixed broadband networks – Familiarity with how networks are built and function will help you in many aspects of the role.
• Familiarity with network protocols and APIs – A foundational understanding is important, and there's room to deepen your knowledge as you go.
• Coding skills – Experience in programming, whether in Python, C, or other languages, depending on the task requirements.
• Interest in data analysis and machine learning – While not required, experience with data analysis tools and AI techniques can be a great advantage.
  
  

Educational Background

• Ongoing studies in Cybersecurity, Networking, Computer Science, or IT-related fields. Near completion or completion of a bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required.
