ICT Network Engineer

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the Hospital’s ICT, Lan, Wan, Wlan and Telephony network. Post holder will play a pivotal role in the operational support of the network environment and assist the Chief Information Security Officer and Network Manager in the on-going planning, development and implementation of the Hospital’s Network Infrastructure and the provision of technical support. He/she will be a member of the Network Team but will need to develop and maintain close links with the wider Informatics Directorate team as well as with all hospital departments

Qualifications & Relevant Experience:

  • 3rd level ICT Degree
  • Network related qualifications eg. CCNA certification
  • 2 years’ experience working in a network environment


Duties & Responsibilities include:

Assist, monitor and support the provision of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for users across the Lan, Wan, Wlan and Telephony network environment and assist in the on-going strategic development of the ICT, Lan, Wan, Wlan and Telephony Network Infrastructure.

  • Complete understanding of networking protocols & troubleshooting by Assisting in the day-to-day operations of the hospitals’ ICT, Lan, Wan, Wlan and Telephony network environment including maintenance, Firmware updates, security patches, backups, windows updates, 24 x 7 systems availability.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of switching and routing.
  • Firewall configuration and management.
  • Managing the installation of network points and patching.
  • Managing standalone implementations that are on network.
  • Knowledge of cyber security best practice and participate in cyber security team, groups and committees
  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and architecture, assisting with upgrades to latest releases – PC & Server.
  • Active Directory and Cloud hosted environment knowledge (e.g., Azure, AWS).
  • Understanding of endpoint protection and detection.
  • Understanding of Wi-Fi & IPT technologies
  • Call management
  1. Calls are assigned & prioritised appropriately
  2. Calls are resolved and closed efficiently
  3. Service Desk policies & procedures are adhered to
  4. Maintaining ICT system and IMS Infrastructure & Operations Pillar documentation
  • Technical support for various ICT infrastructure and backend systems including:
  1. VMWare
  2. Anti-Virus
  3. Backup phone system
  4. System backups
  5. Disaster Recovery planning
  6. Telephony Licence management
  7. Handset management.
  • Co-ordinate hardware installations and software upgrades of Telephony server infrastructure by carrying out detailed project tasks in relation to planning, design, impact analysis, testing, migration and change-over.
  • Assist in the ICT network and telephony system design and installation for campus building developments and alterations.
  • Any other duties appropriate to the post.
