Java Developer Contract

Join a Brisbane-based government department (located in Carseldine) working on transformative initiatives that will modernise critical systems and improve transactional service delivery for Queenslanders.

As a Java Developer, you’ll play a pivotal role in the Customer Services Strategy Program, helping to modernise a vital registration and licensing system while contributing to broader service delivery improvements. This is your opportunity to work on impactful government initiatives and showcase your expertise in backend development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write and modify backend code to create, maintain, and debug software services.
• Collaborate with architects, stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align solutions with business needs.
• Influence and mentor fellow engineers, driving technical excellence across projects.
• Analyse business requirements and designing innovative features and solutions.
• Diagnosing production issues and implementing improvements.
• Deploying code to live environments using SecDevOps practices.
• Developing testing and validation processes to ensure quality.
• You will provide technical leadership in designing, developing, testing, and delivering innovative solutions.

About you:

• 3+ years of experience with Java/Kotlin and/or C# (Python is a plus).
• Expertise in API design and building RESTful web services with containerised or serverless delivery.
• Hands-on experience with any cloud platforms AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Terraform and ‘infrastructure as code’ provisioning skills.
• Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and its practical application.
• Event-Driven processing and event-streaming via Apache Kafka.
• Development experience with Kubernetes Operators is advantageous.
• A proactive and flexible working style, who can work with ambiguity.
