In this role you will be responsible for the design and implementation of world-class strength and conditioning programs aimed at maximising the physical performance of nationally categorised QAS Swimming athletes in the Gold Coast region. This role is part-time, the hours will be spread across 3-4 days per week, aligned to training schedules of assigned programs.
The Queensland Academy of Sport's mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia's best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle. The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia's most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.
The QAS supports more than 500 elite athletes on their sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions. Our expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.
Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation. While this strategy defines our goals, our organisation's culture is what will help us achieve them. Your Contribution And Key Accountabilities
- Provide world-leading evidence-based strength and conditioning services and advice to coaches and QAS categorised athletes in line with each athlete's Individual Athlete Performance Plan (IAPP) which is aligned with their What It Takes to Win (WITTW) framework.
- Deliver sport-specific training in field settings, ensuring tailored programs meet the unique demands of the sport and optimize athlete performance.
- Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for youth athletes that focus on age-appropriate training to build foundational movement skills, optimize athletic performance, and promote long-term physical development while minimizing injury risk.
- Contribute to the development of IAPPs and assist in regularly reviewing the associated specific development priorities and performance metrics to measure progress.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary performance support team that creates a high-performance environment to provide an integrated program based on the level and needs for QAS supported athletes. This includes spending an appropriate amount of time in the daily training environment (DTE) and attending weekly Performance Support team meetings.
- Regularly liaise with key internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Swimming Australia (SA) High Performance departments to collaboratively identify current sport specific S&C trends to deliver high quality integrated outcomes.
- Demonstrate high level responsibility for the application of agreed National Quality Assurance Standards relating to data collection, methods and equipment maintenance and utilise QAS approved systems for athlete programming, monitoring, reporting and data management.
