CO-OP Student, Payments (PRESTO) - Customer Experience Strategy

Employee Status: Contract

Bargaining Unit: Non-Union

Pay Range: $20.60 - $23.69 per hour. Your hourly rate will be based on the year of study at school.

Work Location: 20 Bay St. (HYBRID at least 2 days onsite including Tuesday; on manager request during testing/on-site observation this may rise to 5 days onsite)

Contract up to 4 months starting in May 2025

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The Metrolinx Payments (PRESTO) Customer Experience Strategy team is looking for a CO-OP Student to assist with the testing of new initiatives to continuously improve the Customer Experience of the PRESTO fare payment system used by 11 transit agencies within the GTHA and Ottawa regions. You will report to the Senior Manager, PRESTO Customer Experience.

What will I be doing?

  • Helping the CX team with hardware and software testing for new or improved products/services. This will include testing of accessibility requirements to ensure AODA compliance, such as testing web content for WCAG 2.0 Level AA conformance.
  • Provide a variety of administrative and/or technical services to support the CX team which may include preparing and organizing documents.
  • Assisting the CX team with background research.
  • Some field work (e.g. PRESTO device observation studies) may be required.


What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution.
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment.
  • Enrolled in program such as User Experience (UX) Design, Digital Front-end Development, Digital Accessibility or Inclusive Design (or similar) at a post-secondary institution.
  • Interest in modern transit fare payment is a strong asset.
  • A willingness to learn while being exposed to all aspects of the PRESTO transit fare payment system.
  • Previous experience working within a business environment is preferred.
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Competence in software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
