Job Description
We are currently hiring a Software Analyst Intern for a summer term position, from May to December 2025 or April 2026 (8-12 months), at our Hitachi Rail office in Toronto.
Our team writes software that controls driverless subway trains in real-time. We have deployed driverless train control software in dozens of cities around the world, including London, Hong Kong, Toronto & Vancouver. We work on C++ code that does real-time supervision of trains, allowing remote control, monitoring & scheduling of train movements in busy urban environments. Our system moves millions of people every single day & must be reliable & rock-solid. We want top programmers who can design software systems for these demanding conditions.

Job Description
We are currently hiring a Software Analyst Intern for a summer term position, from May to December 2025 or April 2026 (8-12 months), at our Hitachi Rail office in Toronto.

Key Requirements:
- The successful candidate should be working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited university or college in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Completion of the second or third year of your undergraduate degree, or currently pursuing a master’s degree.
- Knowledge in the following areas will be valuable, but a willingness to dig in & figure things out is the most important – we are constantly trying to improve our development tools, environment & process.
- C++, C# or Java coding skills
- Scripting languages such as Ruby, Perl, Python, Groovy
- Software building tools like gmake, MSBuild, Maven
- Unit testing & continuous integration frameworks
- Web development including Typescript, WebSockets, Stencil, PixiJS, npm
- Source control tools (Git, etc.)
- Windows setup & configuration
- Exposure to object-oriented techniques, multithreading, socket programming, Windows.
- Agile work environments
- Working knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods & tools.
- Strong technical writing & communication skills.
- The ability to work 40 hours a week in a hybrid environment for the duration of the internship is essential. At least 2 days a week in the office.
- Co-op student available for an 8- or 12-month term, with at least one additional quarter or semester of coursework remaining after the completion of the internship.
- Previous co-op or internship experience is a plus, or relevant school projects may be considered.
