The Cloud Engineer position is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of a highly available hybrid cloud environment. The role works within an agile shared services team, ensuring stable infrastructure for applications and automating processes for build, deployment, and proactive monitoring. The candidate must stay updated on trends in hybrid cloud technologies and apply practical solutions to meet business needs, focusing on cloud technology, cloud-native services, and a hybrid cloud - on-premise datacenter architecture. The position also involves making recommendations based on technical knowledge, assisting project teams, and providing third-tier support.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with supervision to establish, monitor, and maintain the Azure cloud environment, native PaaS services, and related network/security infrastructure for reliable operations.
- Monitor Azure maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize disruption.
- Collaborate with developers and scrum teams on cloud services and compute resources for expansion or new feature deployment.
- Build and automate cloud infrastructure using current methods, templates, and automation toolsets.
- Optimize network infrastructure for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services.
- Produce and maintain documentation for cloud and on-premise infrastructure installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Research connectivity, performance, and security issues to determine root cause and implement solutions.
- Participate in the design and implementation of hybrid cloud infrastructure roadmaps.
- Design technical infrastructure and cloud processes, integrate solutions into existing infrastructure, and consult on development projects to meet business and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with service providers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve infrastructure-related issues in a timely manner.
- Participate in on-call rotation and handle special duties outside regular working hours.
Skills & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field required.
Work Experience
- 5+ years of experience in computing or network infrastructure.
- 1-2+ years of experience in an Azure cloud environment as a cloud network engineer, administrator, and/or DevOps role.
- Demonstrated experience building and operating cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with automation (Infrastructure-as-Code, Configuration-as-Code) and managing both on-premises and cloud-hosted infrastructure (Azure) including virtual machines, virtual networks, and automation tools.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms and tools (Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Azure DevOps, etc.).
- Ability to deploy through automation and contribute to application design architectures for Azure.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring tools and DevOps processes.
- Experience with load balancing platforms.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Azure native services (PaaS, IaaS).
- Securing and monitoring cloud resources.
- Familiarity with Palo Alto or related cloud-based firewall technologies.
Certifications
- Current MCSE preferred.
- Current Azure certifications preferred.
- Current AWS certifications a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues independently.
