Job Title: Mid/Senior UX/UI Designer - Information Architecture

This role is a full-time opportunity with Local Peoples, with your first project supporting the Department of Health and Aged Care’s Human-Centred Design (HCD) team. Local Peoples is a preferred partner for the Australian Federal Governments Department of Health and Aged Care’s Human Centred Design (HCD) Centre of Excellence (CoE). Beyond this project, you would be contributing to impactful co-design projects that improve services, policies, and products for communities across Australia.

About the first project:

The team manages three SharePoint sites serving different internal user groups. These sites contain duplicated assets with no clear version control, making it difficult for users to find the resources they need. Our UX/UI designers will:

  • Streamline and optimize the three SharePoint sites using a human-centred design approach

  • Improve information architecture to enhance navigation and usability

  • Develop an ongoing content management strategy to ensure consistency, version control, and accessibility

  • Engage internal users through research, usability testing, and co-design activities

We’re seeking designers with expertise in information architecture, content strategy, and UX best practices, particularly in enterprise or government settings.

This project aims to enhance the user experience for target users when publishing and accessing documents and assets across three SharePoint sites. While a content rewrite is not required—given the technical and specific nature of the assets—there is a need to improve the structure, accessibility, and management of these resources.

Each site serves a distinct purpose and audience and the focus will be on revisiting the strategy for organising and maintaining assets, ensuring they are easily searchable, accessible, and well-managed.

There will be an expectation for this role to conduct user experience research to understand the users and their interactions, using design techniques to prototype and test the information architecture and user interface design (e.g., landing/index pages). Additionally, the role will define a strategy to maintain the new IA for publishers and site owners.

A UX designer with expertise in information architecture and digital content strategy will be a strong fit for this project.

Project Details:

  • Start Date: ASAP

  • Commitment: 5 days per week

  • Location: Remote/In-office as required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead information architecture (IA) design and testing, improving site structure and usability.

  • Conduct design thinking workshops, usability testing, A/B testing, and card sorting exercises.

  • Optimize the intranet and content management strategy, with a preference for SharePoint experience.

  • Coach and upskill cross-disciplinary team members in HCD, focusing on UX/UI best practices and user research.

  • Collaborate effectively within cross-disciplinary teams in an enterprise or government setting.

  • Share knowledge and contribute to practice development within the team.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in information architecture, UI design, prototyping, and testing.

  • Strong expertise in IA design and validation techniques (e.g., card sorting, usability testing, A/B testing).

  • Experience with intranet and content management projects (SharePoint experience preferred).

  • 2+ years of experience coaching and upskilling team members in HCD and UX/UI best practices.

  • Proven track record of collaboration in cross-functional teams within enterprise or government settings.

  • Passion for knowledge sharing and process improvement.
