Senior Machine Learning Engineer (Computer Vision)

Handwave is a biometrics and fintech company with a goal to improve the way we do authentication and payments. They offer customers a convenient and secure experience, allowing them to authenticate or make purchases with just a simple scan of their palm. Their system is not only more convenient for customers but also benefits businesses by reducing transaction times and wait times, leading to increased customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Design and implement advanced computer vision solutions for biometric applications;
• Convert machine learning models and algorithm prototypes into production-ready optimized ML pipelines;
• Research existing biometrics solutions and identify areas of improvement;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software and electronics engineers, to optimize ML models for real-time use;
• Operate independently in a start-up-like environment, taking initiative and working with minimal guidance to achieve project goals;
• Improve coding practices, support code reviews and introduce best practices for model management;
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations in AI and biometrics;

What We Are Looking For:

• 5 years of experience in machine learning related roles;
• At least one computer vision project delivered to production as a major contributor;
• Strong understanding of computer vision principles, including image processing and deep learning knowledge;
• Familiarity with the Python machine learning and computer vision ecosystem;
• Ability to conduct comprehensive literature reviews and select the best solutions for given problems;
• Strong coding, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to optimise algorithms for both speed and memory;
• Ability to clearly explain complex ideas and coordinate work with teammates;
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for the work produced;

Nice to Have:

• Experience working in a start-up environment;
• Experience with generative AI in computer vision;
• Experience with machine learning solutions on edge devices;
• Understanding of optical engineering and underlying principles;
