Lead developer (Mobile) - VR Long Distance Traffic

Location: 2 remote / 3 office (Radiokatu 3, Helsinki)

Tech Stack: React Native, TypeScript, Hapi, Firebase, AWS, Terraform, (Java & Swift)

About The Role

We are looking for a Lead Developer to take technical ownership of the Matkalla mobile app, our mobile app for Finland’s long-distance transport services. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, allowing you to shape the frontend architecture while actively contributing to feature development and improvements.

As Lead Developer, you’ll work closely with backend teams, product managers, and designers, ensuring seamless integration between frontend and backend. You'll also have a say in defining best practices, architecture decisions, and development workflows within the team and across the company.

You will be part of a highly experienced team of senior developers, alongside a dedicated Product Owner, QA Specialist, and Designer. The team values collaboration, well-structured code, and continuous improvement.

Your Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Matkalla frontend using React Native and TypeScript.
• Develop the Matkalla backend using TypeScript, Hapi, and Firebase.
• Lead frontend technical decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with backend teams on API design and integration.
• Work with product and design teams to align development with business goals.
• Drive best practices in frontend development and mentor team members when needed.
• Help shape company-wide development practices, working with the Head of Digital Capabilities on shared solutions like internal libraries, Terraform modules, and CI/CD workflows.
• Ensure the security, performance, and reliability of the platform.
• Work with AWS infrastructure, including ECS, ECR, AWS Lambda, and WAF (depending on your interests and experience).
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience in mobile app development for iOS and Android.
• Strong experience in React Native development and TypeScript.
• Experience with JSON API backend development.
• Experience with REST and JSON API development in Node.js.
• Experience working with AWS cloud services and containerized solutions (preferred but not required).
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code (preferred but not required).
• Experience in writing and designing testable systems and code.
• Familiarity with native app development for iOS and Android (Java & Swift).
• Understanding of networking, DNS, and cloud security best practices (preferred but not required).
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with backend teams, product managers, and designers.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and technical decision-making.
  
  

Language Requirements

• Professional English proficiency is required.
• Good or native Finnish language skills make you a priority candidate.
• Swedish language skills are considered a plus.
