Principal Engineer

Opportunity a fast-growing Fintech start-up within the payments space who are seeking a Principal Engineer to join the team. You will be hands-on focusing mostly across backend development, working closely with the CTO and development team to rebuild PHP (Laravel) codebase and modernise their tech stack!

Experience required:

• Strong experience and understanding of backend architecture.
• An understanding of the PHP language and ecosystem.
• Experience across modern TypeScript frameworks - Node.js, Nest.js (BONUS)
• Experience with modular architecture will be highly regarded.
• Strong AWS.
• Past experiences in Fintech (Payments / Open Banking) will be highly regarded.
• RESTful APIs in-collaboration with mobile engineers.

What you’d be doing in this role:

• Refactor and evolve our PHP Laravel API codebase into a modular architecture
• Write feature, unit, and Integration tests
• Scale and evolve our database schema
• Work closely with Android and iOS developers
• Conduct code development, review, testing, and deployment CICD

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable software solutions using Laravel API and MySQL on AWS.
• Play a part in potentially moving to more modern tech stack.
• Building new features and products while enhancing the existing platform
• Bringing new ideas to help drive the development forward
• Collaborate with teams to design, develop, and implement new features and functionalities
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to ensure code quality and maintainability
• Troubleshoot and debug issues in a timely manner
• Optimise and enhance the performance of existing software solutions
• Deploy and manage applications in AWS
• Continuously learn and stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies
