As a Software Engineer on the Enigma team, you’ll work in Helsinki, Finland, at our Smartly office, playing a key role in developing our scalable, efficient Billing Engine and helping solve some of the most exciting challenges in the SaaS space.

About the Enigma Team:

Enigma is part of Smartly’s Infrastructure Group, where we focus on managing Identity and Access Management (IAM) and optimizing Billing operations. We’re a diverse group of engineers who love solving complex problems that ensure secure authentication, flexible authorization, and a top-notch Billing Engine for our SaaS platform. Our tech stack is modern, including Ruby/Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, NodeJS, Koa, Postgres, RabbitMQ/Kafka, SideKiq, and Kubernetes—perfect for someone eager to tackle challenges head-on and contribute to innovative solutions.

What You'll Be Doing:

As a Software Engineer at Smartly, you’ll:

• Write impactful code in Ruby and Ruby on Rails, contributing to the development and scaling of our Billing Engine, powering millions of users.
• Build and maintain APIs that seamlessly integrate backend services with frontend applications.
• Design and implement new services while refining and optimizing our existing systems.
• Collaborate across teams—from product managers to infrastructure engineers—to deliver impactful solutions that drive business success and improve the customer experience.
  
  
  

What We’re Looking For:

The ideal candidate will bring:

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend solutions with Ruby (NodeJS/TypeScript experience is a plus!).
• A passion for problem-solving and a knack for turning complex challenges into elegant, scalable solutions.
• Strong experience in backend development with curiosity for frontend technologies.
• Bonus points for knowledge of finance or billing systems, but we’re more excited about your ability to learn and grow with us!
• Fluency in English with excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
• A proactive mindset, with a desire to take initiative and collaborate in a dynamic environment.
• Willingness to work from our Helsinki office three days a week.
