Lead Data Scientist

The Upright Project

Are you an experienced Data Scientist eager to make a significant impact? We’re looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join Upright's Data Team and help shape the future of our cutting-edge impact data products, which power decision-making for 300+ institutional investment organizations and corporations across Europe and North America.

Upright's data teams plan, develop, and maintain the data pipelines and algorithms behind Upright's impact data products and supporting datasets. The work is directly tied to Upright's mission to equip companies' stakeholders with high-quality impact data – to help them see the forest from the trees in the increasingly overwhelming sustainability discussion.

As a Lead Data Scientist, you’ll play a crucial role in taking ownership of larger projects and initiatives, while potentially also guiding the team to deliver impactful results. You’ll take charge of technical leadership in key areas, own project delivery, mentor and coach team members, delegate tasks effectively, drive process improvements, and communicate with stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, efficiently, and with impeccable quality.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-growing company while shaping the future of our data products. Responsibilities will be tailored to match your experience and interests, ensuring you can thrive in a role that aligns with your strengths and ambitions.

If you’re ready to grow your career and lead meaningful change, we’d love to hear from you!

SIGNS OF BEING A GREAT MATCH FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in data science and/or software development
  • Demonstrated ability to drive technical decision-making and set the technical direction for projects
  • Proven experience leading data science teams, mentoring junior data scientists, and providing technical direction
  • Strong ability for analytical and mathematical thinking
  • Track record in writing production-quality software, especially in Python and Typescript
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to see the big picture and prioritize work accordingly
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Solid track record of internal passion for excellence: you have gotten things done clearly better than what was required/expected from you, as you enjoy doing things well

ADDITIONALLY, WE VALUE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive practical experience in predictive modeling, Bayesian inference and/or convex optimization
  • Experience in LLM-assisted data processing
  • Experience in ETL pipelines
  • Expertise in using cloud technologies such as AWS Sagemaker, Glue, ECR, and Fargate or similar services in Google Cloud or MS Azure

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • A chance to join a quickly growing and highly ambitious impact SaaS company with a mission that matters
  • A fun and kind team with exceptional people who care about what they do
  • Exciting professional growth opportunities
  • Competitive compensation, including stock options and a comprehensive healthcare package
