Software Development Team Lead

The PHP Development Team Lead is responsible for overseeing both the technical and people management aspects of the back-office development team. This role involves managing a team of developers, setting the technical vision, and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality solutions while fostering team growth and collaboration. The Team Lead will also be involved in administrative responsibilities such as capacity planning, onboarding, and employee development.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

● Architectural Oversight: Design and maintain scalable, efficient back-office systems that align with the company's technical goals.

● Development Excellence: Oversee hands-on development and code reviews, ensuring high code quality and adherence to best practices.

● Frameworks & Standards: Establish and enforce technical standards, guidelines, and best practices with input from the CTO.

● Project Technical Roadmap: Guide the technical direction for back-office projects, recommending tools, programming languages, and technologies.

● Problem Resolution: Serve as a technical authority, addressing complex issues and guiding technical decisions.

● Innovation: Encourage adoption of new technologies and methodologies to drive continuous improvement within the team.

● Stakeholder Interaction: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.

● Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technical leaders to ensure that back-office solutions integrate well with other systems and initiatives.

People Management:

● Team Leadership & Development: Hire, train, and grow the back-office development team. Conduct regular 1-on-1s, mentoring, and provide continuous feedback to foster professional development.

● Attrition Risk Assessment: Monitor team engagement and assess attrition risks, taking proactive steps to maintain a stable, motivated team.

● Capacity & Resource Planning: Collaborate with Project Managers to plan capacity, approve vacations, and manage overtime to ensure optimal resource utilization.

● Onboarding & Offboarding: Manage the onboarding process for new hires and handle offboarding activities, ensuring smooth transitions and knowledge handover.

● Performance Reviews: Regularly assess team members’ performance, providing clear feedback and actionable steps for improvement.

● Approval of Administrative Requests: Oversee administrative tasks such as vacation approvals, timesheet management, and other HR-related functions.

● Team Capacity Planning: Work closely with project managers (PjMs) to plan team capacity and ensure that the team can meet project demands effectively.

Essential Skills & Requirements

● PHP Expertise: Extensive experience with PHP and in-depth knowledge of a major PHP framework (e.g., Phalcon, Laravel, Symfony).

● Database Management: Advanced experience with MySQL and Redis, and the ability to optimize database performance.

● Team Leadership: Previous experience leading teams, including hiring, mentoring, and managing up to 10 or more developers.

● Messaging Systems: Familiarity with Kafka or similar messaging systems is beneficial.

● Architectural Knowledge: Experience in system architecture, designing scalable and robust systems.

● Administrative Skills: Ability to handle administrative duties such as capacity planning, onboarding, and performance reviews.

● Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to manage team dynamics, stakeholder expectations, and cross-functional collaboration.
