Job Purpose:
The IT Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, and management of scalable, reliable, and secure network infrastructures, primarily using Cisco and Ruckus technologies. This role ensures the seamless performance and security of both wired and wireless networks by troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining network systems. The IT Network Engineer also plays a key role in the monitoring and support of network performance, addressing issues proactively to minimize downtime. With a focus on best practices, industry compliance, and network security, the engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the integrity and functionality of the organization's network architecture, supporting the business’s operational needs and growth.
Responsibilities:
Network Design and Implementation:
- Design, configure, and implement network solutions using Cisco products and Ruckus wireless infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain network architecture, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
Network Configuration and Management:
- Perform advanced networking configurations, including VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), and switching.
- Manage and troubleshoot network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
Wireless Infrastructure:
- Design, deploy, and manage wireless networks using Ruckus and Cisco wireless technologies.
- Optimize wireless network performance, including coverage, capacity, and roaming.
Network Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor network performance and security, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
- Perform regular network maintenance, including firmware updates, patch management, and configuration backups.
Troubleshooting and Support:
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for network-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve complex network problems.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
- Generate reports on network performance, incidents, and resolutions.
Compliance and Security:
- Ensure network compliance with industry standards and best practices.
- Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Certifications:
- CCNA or CCNP certification is required.
- Additional certifications in wireless networking (e.g., CWNA, CCNP Wireless) are a plus.
Experience:
- Proven experience with Cisco products (routers, switches, firewalls) and Ruckus wireless infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.).
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in network configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark).
- Knowledge of network security best practices and tools.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Networking or similar.
- Experience with cloud networking and SD-WAN technologies.
- Familiarity with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) for network management.
- Knowledge of VoIP and unified communications systems.
